Have you been told to do a two week diet pre-op and didn't stick to it or what if you don't stick to it compared to if you do. Just curious although I will definately be sticking to the plan. I guess what I really want to know is what is the point of it. I guess that's what I'll be asking my doc on Oct. 10th doctor visit... I love this website obesityhelp.com and I'm so Thankfull for all you guys advice.... It's well appreciatted. Thanks, Stephy Kaye

I'm not advising this but my doc requested a very low carb, low fat diet for the two weeks before surgery. I did everything but that, I ate everything in site, everything I was afraid that I was never going to be able to eat again, everything that I thought I might be missing out on going forward. For me it was ok. I was really honest with my doc about it though. I told him outright that the last thing I had done was low carb and low fat. He said it happens a lot. The surgery however is easier on your body if you do the low fat, low carb thing before surgery.

Doctors have different opinions on this subject. But the main reason that people are put on a 2 week pre-op diet (most of the time liquids only) is to shrink your liver or de-fat the liver. If the liver loses some of it's stored fat then it is more moveable during surgery and less likely to be cut...which is not a good thing. If your doctor recommends this try your best to stick to it. It is VERY hard but well worth it in the end. Good luck with everything!

I had to do a two week liquid diet pre-op. 80g+ of protein a day and under 1000 calories. I ended up losing 17lbs. Nothing but protein shakes, jello, pudding, and applesauce.

Yea.. I am a litte less. Last month was a slow loss for me, but I am currently at 235(-77lbs). I was on a "full liquid" diet for 2 weeks after, which was a lot of soups, cottage cheese, protein shakes, mashes potatoes (mmmmm). Then I went onto soft foods for 2 weeks, which was anything that you could mash really good, refried beans, peas, cheese, etc. Feed myself through a tube? NO. The liquid diet wasnt bad pre-op. I did get a little "head hunger" at about day 5. Here is what I had every day. Breakfast - Protein shake Snack - 32oz crystal lite Lunch - 1/2c. jello, 1/2c. pudding, protein shake Snakc - 32oz crystal lite Dinner - 1/2c. jello, 1/2c. apple sauce, 1/2c. pudding, protein shake If you keep yoursefl full all the time with water or something, hunger really isnt an issue. Just constantly sip sip sip on something to keep your stomach full.
