...and blast off!
Hey Everyone!
Had my appointment today with my PCP. The nurse was so annoying, she told me that I was too young and she totally encouraged me not to do it and gave me some small horror stories about a friend of hers that had the surgery and is skin and bones now and another friend the is having a some problems and wished that she never had the surgery. AAAHHHHH! I have to give myself a small pep talk to keep my positive about having the surgery.
But what really made me happy was my PCP; he is so nice and even told me that my BMI could qualify me to have the surgery because I am at 47. And my blood pressure is somewhat high, so....... who knows. He referred me to a sleep apnea study and a behavioral study and he told me that we will go from there! So it's started and I am happy about that! Thanks everyone for the support!

I'd rather be skin and bones than fluffy and fat. I wouldn't call those horror stories! Horror stories would be some kind of complication not.......weight loss, lol. If her friends are so skinny she needs to tell them to eat more calories then! Please don't let her boney friends change your mind. I hope everything goes well for you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Ash.
I am happy you are a step closer to WLS.
I had a nurse that talked really bad about the surgery too. She told me that she had a friend that lost weight so fast that the fat was seeping through her skin and she stunk (SO NOT TRUE). I was just starting the journey so it freaked me out but I knew that I had already made up my mind to do this.
As long as you know you are doing the right thing, SCREW what others have to say.
Good luck in your journey,
Kay

that is such a load of BS. i can't believe a nurse would encourage those kind of mis-information. what may have happened to that friend is ketosis, where the body's metabolism switches and primarily burns fat for energy. this can sometimes lead to bad breath which could contribute to a 'stinking' issue.
and i've checked out a lot of profiles on this site, some people do have major hanging skin issues, even those under 30. but none of them say they regret WLS. they'd rather be flappy than flabby. and frankly, so would i.
stay focused, eye on the prize and all that!
I think in a situation like that you should say, ". I have talked to several dozens of people who have had this surgery [via these messageboards]and have sworn it's the greatest thing that they did. This is why I would like to speak to the surgeon, to address my concerns and see if it's a good idea. Thanks for the advice though." That should do it.
