I'm going to get my first tattoo as a gift for myself when I reach goal. I also have thought about getting something that will symbolize a new and changed life so I am thinking of getting a butterfly. I know, everyone seems to get a butterfly, but I have a while until I get mine so I am going to search around and talk to some artsy friends and find a really elaborate butterfly, not some dinky one. I really want it to be special. Also, you might want to check out the tattoo message boards and see if they have any suggestions. Hope this helps and congrats on your 47 pound weight loss! -Lynn Lap RNY 8-16-05 297/267/150

I'm about a month out now and I'm already thinking about how I can cover up a bad tattoo I got on my lower back when I was 18. The "artist" was sooooo bad and I don't regret getting the tattoo....but not researching a good artist to do it. I have a circular celtic knot with tribal rays coming out of it - but it looks horrible. I wanted to get a stylized butterfly of some kind, but done entirely in celtic knotwork. I'm sure it's going to be a difficult cover-up, but I've got a while before I do it. I want to get down to goal before I actually get it done.

Well I'm the odd ball. If I was to get one it would be of Garfield. Yep the big fat orange cat. I would have under it some saying about starting over. Or one of his catchy phrases. But I've heard alot of ppl wanting butterflies. Good luck!

Well I have several tattoos and believe me I am planning the next two , I want to do 2 sparrows on my shoulders. Because to me birds represent freedom .. Freedom from a body and life I felt I was trapped in... Some other ideas that might work are, maybe a set of flowers, one in a bud stage of growth or half way blossomed and one full and beautiful and fully bloomed. Although, I think anything you choose, as long as you have that "new beginning" or "starting over" in mind will hold that meaning to you. Tattoos afterall I believe are so personal and you can really customize any idea to make it your own and hold a truly powerful personal meaning to you. Whatever you choose I am sure it will be gorgeous!

Don't Know If You Are In To Kanji Or Not.........But Find Something Like That Which Means New Beginning. Also Just Make Sure Whatever You Get Is Something You Would Want Forever. I Have 11 And Trust Me As Soon As I Lose ALL My Weight I'm Getting Sleeves.

Hi Christina... I agree with everyone else about the butterfly idea. I'm butterfly obsessed (I have two butterflies on different parts of my body). Two weeks ago, I got the second one in celebration of my "rebirth" as a new person, and in tribute to my grandmother, who was one of my inspirations for getting surgery. I've posted a link to pictures of it below. I also thought about getting a tattoo of the Hindu god, Shiva the destructor. Mainly because in order to resurrect and begin anew, the old must be torn down and dealt with. You should go to an artist you trust, and who does good work and collaborate with them on a design. Hope all this helps! http://photobucket.com/albums/v490/WhitneyT/Tattoos/

I love your tattoo! I have been saving websites with butterflies to my favorites and I added yours so I can have some inspiration for when I go get mine. I like black and grey tattoos better than color. -Lynn Lap RNY 8-16-05 297/258/150
