Hey Everyone! I have been reading some of the comments from everyone, and here and there I would notice someone saying...."When I got my appetite back" or something to that nature. Is it true that one losses they're appetite all together for a certain amount of time? Is that why people are loving the surgery so much and why it is helping so much??? Post Op's help me out here.... Here's to losing our appetite! Ashley

I haven't exactly lost my appetite, but I don't eat all that much, either. It's just SUCH a pain. The chew, chew, chew, chew x 3000. The pain if you get too big of a bite or one bite too many. The frustration of not getting to eat as much of something that you really, really love. The fear that you're eating too much or the wrong thing. It's easier for me to just grab a bottle of tea or something instead. I mean, I'll feel just as full, right? *shrugs* I've recently realized I sometimes go days at a time without eating... and don't even notice 'til after it's been several days. And I'm sure it's absolutely horrible for me and I may or may not be an extreme case, but that's just been my experience.

I would say I really didnt have an appetite until 3 months post-op. After you get home from the hospital, you honestly dont feel like eating. I got digusted at the sight of food. Eventually, once you get to eat more solid foods, the hunger will come back. You just have to remember to eat your 3 meals a day and make sure to get your protein in. Right now i am 4.5months post op and I really only get hungry around meal times. Usually every 4-5hrs is when I will start to get hungry again.

Hi Ashley, I am a year out and I just got hungry again recently. I mean I would eat before, but I was never really hungry like I was before surgery. Now I actually get the stomach growl and physical hunger as opposed to just wanting to or knowing it was time to have soemthing to eat. I wouldn't exactly say i lost my appetite...it was just on vacation for a while. Believe me...now its back. My best advice is to make the best of that first year to really change your habits because it doesn't last forever. I am struggling with food choices lately. It's rough, but I do my best to resist temptation. Also I am boredom eater, so when I am not doing something I snack more. Basically I try to stay busy and that really helps! Hugs, Sara

Hey Ashley, I am a little over 4 months post-op and I never really get hungry, I just know I have to eat. I feel SO different than I used too. The only time I really get hungry is about mid-day when I am at the school Subway with my friends. Guess I am a social eater, even if it is just my protein bar! -Amber Dawn
