I am 24 years old and on September 22 i am having WLS. I am excited that this has happened so fast for me and my insurance has been great but i am starting to freak about the whole hospital thing. i have read all the books and even had a friend go through WLS a few weeks ago and she had no pain at all she said. however i tend to haev bad luck with drs. and hostipals and even new medications. i guess i just need a little support from people who have been there. my husband is great support but he has never been overweight and he doesnt haev the same fears as i do about my surgery so any advice would be great. thanks to everyone that responds in advance

Hey I really don't know what to tell you I am a newbie myself 7 wks out almost.. but I am doing good. I have my ups and downs from time to time.. but otherwise I have more better days than bad.. It is a very scary process to be going through.. I don't know much about you nor read your page.. I think it makes it easier if you don't have children to worry about.. I only could think of if something happened and leaving my child.. But I read this post by someone who signed my page and on her page it said If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. THat did more for me than anything that any person on this board could have said.. and it also, said Trust in the Lord with all thine heart" and I promise if you do this Honey God will be on your side.. I hope you do wonderful with this surgery and normally like you said I don't recoop from surgery very well at all. I had a lap Gallbladder quite a few years ago, they said oh you will be back to work and fine in 3 days.. um I was down for 6 wks.. same thing with my c-section was rough and i was sick for months.. and when i had my appendix removed same thing lol. yes i have had a few surgeries.. but none scared me more than this one did.. but you will do fine.. goodluck

You just have to take the good with the bad...everyone is different in their experiences but you just have to be confident in your choice to have WLS and the people(doc) that you have closen to take you through it. When I was at my heaviest I was so affraid that I was going to have a heart attach or get some kind of disease...that fear was much greated and haunted me compaired to my decision of having WLS! Hang in there girl!

Hi Rachel, All you can do is trust in the fact that your surgeon and the hospital staff will take good care of you. I made sure to select a wonderful surgeon and a great hospital. I must say my roomate made my hospital stay less than fun, but it was only 4 days of my life It went by quickly and I had lots of visitors to keep me sane. I was lucky and I didn't have much pain, but I think it was due to the nursing staff and their attentiveness to my needs. Just be sure to get up and walk as soon as possible and if you are in pain or feeling discomfort to let the doctors know. Have your husband or other family members prepared to advocate for you if need be. I wish you all the best! You will be in my prayers Hugs, Sara 356/232/175

Hi. I don't have any advice for you, but I did want to tell you that we are having WLS on the same day! How cool is that? (((Hugs))) Best to you, Amanda
