Hi all...I was wondering have any of you or your family or friends paid cash for the surgery??? I was just wondering if all my other options fail me-I may somehow pay for it. I got the Texas medicad (dont cover it) but the doctor's office, can put my actual stay and gall bladder removal surgery on the medicaid and just charge me for the Gastric bypass....does anyone have any input on this ? Thank ya Brooke

Hi Brooke, I had california medicaid pay for my surgery, I think it is great that they can charge your stay with the removal, do you know how much it will cost for the actual surgery? have you asked if they would take a payment option? I wish you the best of luck!! Rachael

Hi Brooke, I got this info from the hospital today that I will be having surgery at. RNY $23,100.00 for a 3-4 day stay Lap Band $13,093.00 for a 1 day stay These are just estimates from Dean St Marys in Wi. They do offer discounts for self pays. I don't beleive that these cost cover after care or any testing before hand. Hope this helps a little Kimmie

Ever thought about checking with Vocational Rehab. to see if you qualify? They are paying for my surgery. So far I had to pay for my first visit with surgeon. Some of the test that I will need, I am going to have to pay for but it beats paying the price for the surgery. Good Luck, Kay

I paid cash for my surgery and went across the border. It sounds like you'll save a bunch of money having your surgery with your current doctor if he can bill insurance for the hospital stay, etc though. Good luck!

i had florida medicaid.... there are certain plans under the medicaid that don't cover the surgery but i don't know how it is in other states. like my medicaid makes you choose a ppo or hmo plan and i picked the plan the dr.s office told me would cover the surgery. well best of luck. oh and down here it's from 23 to 25 grand depending what hospital you do it at. good luck. maria
