Im Back - - 6 days Post Op!!
I just wanted to say hi to everyone. The procedure went well, the hospital staff was great, and now I am adjusting to my new life. I was told that I must get in 64 oz of clear liquids a day - How is this accomplished? I do not know how much to drink at a time... I hear 2 oz of water every 15 minutes. Tomorrow I start on full liquids - yogurt, shakes, etc. Anyone Post-Op with any eating tips - I am all "ears". Thanks for reading.
This is the fun part because you get to learn how to eat ALL over again. LOL. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE Chewing... I know you are on full liquids but soon you will be on soft foods. I think it has just become habit for me now to chew until it is very very very soft. I have yet to get something "stuck" (at 3-1/2 months).
Liquids and PROTEIN. TRY TRY TRY your hardest to get these in. I was pushing myself so hard the first week that I accidently took a GULP of water. BOY did that hurt! 2oz in 15min is nothing. Carry a water bottle around with you at ALL times. I still do to this day! I was able to seriously take drinks at about 3 weeks... then it isnt a problem to get liquids in. I can get in 80oz a day easily now.
Along with your full liquids try some garlic mashed potatoes!!! MMM Those kept me sane for the first 3 weeks. That is pretty much what I ate. Mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, and baked beans. It will get SOOO much better once you can move on to soft foods... which is basically anything you can chew up really well. At that point I moved on to chili, crackers, and yes.. I even had a few tortilla chips with refried beans on them with some melted cheese.... you will start to get creative after awhile.
Sorry for rambling. Let me know if you want any help with food suggestions or anything. I am soooo willing to help because I know how much I needed it in the beginning... now I am just returning the favor. I can even give you my cell # if you needed to chat to someone(email me privately)
