I'm a bit confused about the way the lapband works... I have researched it a little bit but I am not sure how it works post op? How do they fill the tube up? Do they have to go back in and fill it? I have tried to find an info about it but no one explains all of that. I'm just curious.

Katie To Get A Fill Is Just A Shot. No Pain Or Anything Like That. Just A Quick 2 Second Shot And Bing Bang Boom Your Out The Door. Dr. Visit Takes Less Than 3 Minutes.

Hey Katie, The lapband works like this:There is a "band" put around the stomach which has like an inflatable ring on the inside. There is a tubing that it is attached to with a port on the end. The port is placed on the inside of the stomach so the surgeon can access it in the office to "fill" it. You can't see the port! In order to fill it, they numb the area with a tiny needle and then you lay flat on your back and they add saline to the port. This make the band a bit tighter with less space to allow food to go through. The recovery time for the band is much shorter than with the bypass. I would have been a huge fan of the bypass if it didn't involve the cutting of anything inside. I just wasn't comfortable having my insides re-arranged. Also, I had read how many people who have the bypass can stretch the pouch and gain back weight. With the lapband it can be adjusted for life. I just felt that at my age it was smarter to go with something like this. I am in no way saying the bypass isn't good...I am just saying it wasn't for me. I also like that the weightloss is a bit slower so my skin won't be as bad in the end. If you want to find more info, go to the main page and on the left side it says "select a forum" click on the lapband one. There is a great message board there and also info on the actual surgery itself. Whatever your decision is, best of luck and I am sure we will be in touch on this new board!! Talk to you soon!! Thanks for the info! I was so confused as to how they fill the ring. I had heard somewhere that the filling port was visible on the outside of the skin... which made me wonder why someone would go that avenue. But I understand now! Thanks. I have already been approved for the gastric bypass and for some reason or another feel like that is a better choice for me. I can't explain why but after all my research on the two procedures I decided to go this way mainly, because of the absorption issue. I know in my past just reducing the amount of food I take in doesn't get the job done... It gets me to a point then I hit a wall and can't get past. I was at the point where I was practically starving myself, so I felt I need the combination of the two, reduced food intake and less calorie absorption. But the lapband seems to be working great for those who use it. Afterall, the before and after pics are so cool to see.. everyone seems to be doing so well. I definitly look forward to my journey. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!
