I was just wondering if anyone has joined the curves gym? I was thinking about it and dont know anyone who has gone there. I heard you go like once everyday for 30mins and you do multiple workouts in that 30mins. SO anyone know anything about it like the cost or just if it is a good place let me know please.. Thanks brittany 310/260

Brittany, I myself have never gone to Curves. I have had friend and family that have. So this is what I do know. You go when you want, best if you go daily or everyother. Like anyother workout program. I beleive that you stay on the machines for 1-2 min at a time then you would move to the next machine and same thing there. I'm not sure how many there are but I think that the workouts or 30-45 min. As far as cost where I live it either $30.00 or $40.00 per month and you can have that taken out of your checking. Or you could pay up front and receive a discount. There is a yearly contract that you have to sign and if you should decide that you would no longer like to go, you still have to pay the fee monthy. Hope this helps. Kimmie

Brittany, Hi I don't go to Curves myself, but my aunt owns a Curves and she told me not to join one. She said that as soon as she can get out from under her contract with them she will get rid of all of their machines. She said they are not that good and not worth the money. She bought the room next to her gym and opened it up and put different machines in there and let all of her patrons use those machine instead. And she only has a few that will still use the Curves ones. She says they just don't work as well as other gym equipement. I hope this is helpful to you. Tina

I went in to check it out and this is how it works: There's a bunch of machines and "cardio boards" set up in a circle. Machine/board/machine/board and so on. Your session is 30 minutes, and you start in one place, and move every 30 seconds. On the boards you jog, or do jumping jacks, or something aerobic, and then use the machines inbetween. Alot of the people I know who've used it say it was good at first, but after a while it just wasn't intense enough and they had to move on. Sarah

I have been a member of curves since November and it is a nice place to go and work out. At first I was skeptical because I didn't think a 30 minute workout would be ideal for someone my size however, after going 2 times a week for the first month and then upping it to 3 times a week (which is what they recommend) I have noticed a difference. I have not been in a few months due to health problems but while I was attending I enjoyed the work out and it really was a work out no matter what people say. Basically, it's a circle of machines (about 12 different machines) that work out every part of your body; from you neck to your toes etc. The machines are setup like this: machine, stepping block, machine, stepping block etc. You spend 30 seconds warming up/stretching/dancing/jumping up and down whatever you want on the stepping block and then 30 seconds on the machine and then you go to the next block and to the next machine...getting the idea? Every 10 minutes you stop and take your pulse, they have a huge poster with what a normal pulse rate is and where you are by the number of beats. The poster explains it better then I can. Anyway, after your 30 minute workout you stretch and go home. My gym recommended 3 times a week and no more. Make sure to drink water before you go and sip water while you work out because the women I have worked out with including myself get really dehydrated because of the continuous workout. Hope this helps, good luck. Tara

I belong to Curves. I went before WLS and starting 6 weeks after. It combines cardio and weight lifting in a 25 minute work out with 5 minutes for stretching. Why I like Curves: *It's mindless. I don't have to think about what I'm going to do or how long I've been working out. I just hop on the circuit and hop off after 2 revolutions. At a regular gym (which I worked out at before) I would do cardio and get bored or tired and quit after 10, 15, or 20 minutes. I would also do weight lifting very lacksidasically--a few reps of this, a few reps of that, with no real order or purpose. Curves does all that work for you--you just show up! *It's quick. There is NOTHING you can't do for 30 seconds. Even if something is hard or tiring, it's only 30 seconds, and then you are on to the next thing. *It's less intimidating. It's all women, and a lot of the women at my Curves are overweight, so it's not like you are trying to workout next to bikini models in thong leotards. *The hours. My curves is open 9a-2p, 4p-8p (with a few exceptions) M-F, unlike my old gym, which was open from 5a-11p. This may seem like a bad thing, but I used to procrastinate so horribly--telling myself I could STILL get to the gym if it was 10pm and I hadn't been yet. This way, I have to get there before 7:30pm (I like to work out at night, because I hate the mornings!). Usually, I head over directly from work and get home from work feeling quite proud of myself. One negative: Although the weight training is good for me now, I can tell that I will want to do more challenging training once I get a little farther along in my weight loss. There ARE things you can do to beef up the workout from their machines, but you still can't add weight to them or increase resistence exponentially. Eventually, I'll switch back to a regular gym, but by then, I should be pretty comfortable next to the models, right? Jem 326.5/271/165
