Radio stations
I just wrote them this:
Dear Heath West,
Im writing to you this evening to inform you of my disgust with a part of your show tuesday morning. I got in my car and 92.7 is locked into my radio. Its usually what I listen to 100% of the time, but now it makes me very irritated to turn it on and for that Im very disappointed. When I tured my radio on, tuesday morning and all I heard were "fat jokes" I wanted to call your show up and give them a piece of my mind. Unfortunately I was in my parking lot at work and did not have the time. I do not appreciate those jokes. Someones obesity is not a laughing matter, its not something to take lightly, and its very offensive. Obesity is a disease - you wouldnt allow your employees to make fun of cancer patients would you? Then how DARE THEY make fun of obese women? This was one of the worst things I could have heard in the morning and Im completely disgusted with WAVE 92.7!
Thank you for your time.
And this was my response:
Hi there (you didn't submit your name)...
Well this certainly isn't the way I wanted to kick off my day here at the radio station!
Thanks for writing. While I can not defend what the John Boy & Billy show said (by the way, they are nationally syndicated on 99 radio stations nationwide and based in Charlotte, North Carolina), I can say that for the most part, the folks that make up the show are themselves overweight. The "weight issue" has been fodder for their show for years--often making fun of themselves. The show features two women, one of which could be considered overweight. Her name is Marci, though she chooses to go by the nickname "Tater."
I certainly hope your disgust does not translate to the rest of the air staff here at Wave 92.7.
Sincerely,
Heath West
