I just ran across this forum. It will be nice to see how people closer to my age are handling things. I'm 28, and have been heavy all my life. I remember being a cute skinny kid when I was about 8 and it went down hill from there. I hit 380 and have not been able to get pregnant so enough is enough.

I've mostly been on the Duodenal Switch forum  since that is the surgery I will be having on July 29th. I'm super excited, scared, nervous, and READY to get this surgery done.

20 Days! I'm guess I will be put on the two week liquid diet Friday when I go for my pre-surgery appointments. I'm not looking forward to it, but its a sign i'm that much closer so YAY! I've lost 13  pounds so far pre-op and hope to lose about 15 on the liquid only diet coming up.

I can't wait to read all of your stories and go on this life changing journey.

welcome to the boards!
I am still pre op - it is a whole long drawn out process in Ontario, Canada because the healthcare system pays for it.

but what I see is that everyone is really happy with the choice, and those who have it later in life wish they hadn't waited so long.

Thanks! I hope you are able to get the surgery soon. My process has gone pretty fast and I'm so happy for it. When I made up my mind to have it I was ready to get it done. I made up my mind in May and I'm scheduled for surgery July 29th :). 18 1/4 days!! I can't wait.

It sucks that you have to wait but great that it will be paid for. Pre-op alone I've put in about $1,200. My insurance will cover most of the surgery but I'm sure they will find a way to bill me for something.

Congrats! I've been on that forum also just to hear about other peoples journey with that type of surgery, I have the Realize Band and im wanting to have a revision & DS surgery is the one im leaning towards, so far seems like people are happy with it.

Good Luck with your surgery!

Thanks. The DS seems like the best choice for someone who has a lot to lose and thats me. I know it will be hard to adjust at first but I'm pretty confident I can manage. I hope I'm extremely successful.
