i recieved my surgery three weeks ago and so far i regret it. part of it might be that i cant figure out things i actually want to eat, part of it might be that im lonely. i eep fantasising about food but when i have it in front of me it seems so unappetizing. i guess im just confused. also my gas bubbles in the esophagus are driving me crazy. Im so tired i dont want to get off the couch and i feel depressed.

do these feeling go away? did anyone else feel like this in the beginning? does anyone know any good recipes? maybe thatd help....

Food was very unappealing for a while. It would smell good and the thought of it would be good in my mind, but by the time it was on my plate and in front of me, I didn't want anything to do with it. Your body is still healing and it needs time and rest to re-coup, but it also needs food, so while it may be unappealing at the moment, think of your meals as medicine, you've just got to get down that little bit and can go back to sleeping and recovering. I found that the more I was able to get on track with my water and eating, that I was less tired and feeling more back to myself. It takes time, but does get better!

What stage of eating are you at? I think at three weeks I was on pureed foods. I love chicken breast cooked in the crock pot with cream of mushroom soup, then puree the chunks of chicken with a bit of the soup and top with a bit of gravy (the mix stuff that doesn't have much in the way or calories/carbs/fat/etc that you just add water to... for flavour). It didn't look all that appealing, so I made up my portions ahead of time to when I was going to eat, so then I could focus on how good it smelled.

Hope this helps!

I am actually on soft proteins right now, and cant stand to look at lunch meat or eggs anymore. any suggestions for when you were at that stage?

I actually just continued eating the same things I had on the pureed phase, just not blended up. I had the chicken cooked in the crock pot so it was nice and soft, homemade meat sauce with low fat Parmesan cheese, things like that. One thing I wish I found out about earlier in my journey is bariatricfoodie's blog. I really like the Greek yogurt parfait thing she makes on there and that would have been good to have on the soft protein phase (it's Greek yogurt mixed with SF/FF pudding mix - I use white chocolate flavour- and then you add in fruit. I like diced strawberries in mine but have heard of other people doing cheesecake flavoured pudding mix and other additives as well). I've made several other items from her website too and have really enjoyed them.

To be honest, the first couple of months were the most tedious for eating because my surgeon only recommended trying one new food item a day, so in case something didn't agree with me, I knew exactly what it was. By doing this, I was eating the same things over and over again. As the weeks went on, I was able to introduce more variety and this helped immensely.

Have a look at some of these websites and hopefully they offer some inspiration!

Edited to add:
Check out eggface's ricotta pancakes. They would have been perfect for the soft stage. They are delicious, I use vanilla pudding mix in mine (I don't like the flavours she uses like pistachio) and top with sugar free maple syrup. Delicious!
