I considered this gastric bypass surgery about a year ago..had insurance approval and surgery date but got scared right before and didn't end up doing it. In the last year, I've had no success whatsoever losing this weight and I'm doing the surgery for sure!  I'm waiting on approvals and stuff but I expect the surgery to be sometime in December, what a way to start a new year right?

I am hoping lots of you will tell me benefits and downsides that I can expect..I'd really like to meet people who are going through it right now and also those who have done it a long time ago..a year ago or even more..so I know what to expect!   Tell me anything, bad or good. I'd like to be as prepared as possible!!

Hey there.. good for you- you backed out, but now you are going for it again. Congrats to you!

There are many positives to having the surgery... there are some negatives... but I feel as though the positivies definitely outweigh the negatives!

I am an open book...feel free to add me and ask ANY and ALL questions... I can bet you I've already asked it and received an answer for it.. LOL

Best of luck!! You can get a LOT of information from the people on this site! Also, just take some time and do some heavy researching.

I am having VSG surgery on Nov. 2nd and am super excited for it!! Not even a little bit unsure or nervous! I'm on my liquid diet right now and that is pretty tough, but I look at it as a test of my resolve. Been drinking my meals since Saturday and haven't cheated once! LOL

My mom had the bypass in 2009 and has lost almost 200# with NO complications!! You will have a lot of restrictions on what you eat, but the end result is totally worth it! She tells anyone who asks her that there is no downside to having the surgery. Your life after surgery will be so much more fullfilling!! And you will feel like a different person! Good luck!!!

I guess right now I just mainly want to know what to expect like a year after the surgery, are the restrictions still there?  Or are they lessened even a little? I mean I do understand that this is a lifestyle change, but still curious about how things will be then!

i'm 13 months out today so feel free to ask me any questions. of course there are still restrictions, but can you bend them, sure. i feel like drinking alcohol too early out is my biggest regret, but i've accepted it, and i'm 25 i still drink just less. but those empty calories 2 months out were not my smartest move. some things i can eat a normal serving of, others i can hardly eat any. i occassionally dump so i do need to watch the sugar, but i don't get it as bad as others. i feel like i live a relatively "normal" life in terms of eating.

but like i said before, any specific questions feel free to ask. i'm usually on here at least once a day procrastinating homework!
