IUD's: Mirena or Paragard ?
I am on my 3rd year of the Mirena. I think I might try the paragard next if my husband doesnt get neutered before then. I just got used the Mirena now. At the year point- i almost had it removed. It felt like I had post partum... took Prozac for a bit.... (found out I was Vit D deficient- so stopped) moody, I would only have periods 8-9 months, when i did it is hell.
I recently got the copper paragard.
my doctor and I came to this decision together based on my age and situation with the RNY.
He thought something non-hormonal would be better for me since I'm losing weight and my hormones are crazy already due to the wls.
I've never had any children, so I wont lie... the insertion was painful and I was in that lucky 1% where it didn't end up in the right spot, so I had to have it adjusted... but that was a week ago and I haven't had any problems since.
Plus... this one can last for 10 years .... which is great because my philosophy is "An empty uterus is a happy uterus"

I've had the copper paraguard for a few years now and I think it's great! It was only a $100 or so, lasts 10 years, and it doesn't mess with your hormones, so if you want to have a baby, you can have it removed and you're good to go! I have 1 kid so far, but I hope to have another one someday. Now that I'm hopefully going to have RNY, I'm SO glad I went this route. The only real downside I've found is that my periods are bad, like my 2nd and 3rd days are just aweful! But I get through it.
