Pre-op Testing Update

Well, today I had my gallbladder ultrasound, that went well. I also had my upper endoscopy, which didn't go as well as I could've hoped. My discharge instructions said I needed to have a cardiac evaluation before any surgery so when I got home I called my surgeon's office and asked what that was all about and the receptionist took my info, said she'd have the nurse call me back blah blah. Well the nurse calls me back and says Kara, what did you do!? I heard you caused quite the excitement in the Endoscopy Suite. I was like I have no idea?? She said, oh no one told you? So you don't know anything? I was like... no. She says oh well during your scope you had an abnormal cardiac rhythm and scared the crap out of the staff, so now we need you to have a full cardiac evaluation and you need cleared by a Cardiologist before you can have surgery. Now I'm freaking out and worrying about my heart. Great.

Try not to worry too terribly much (easier said than done, I know) but abnormal cardiac rhythms can be caused by so many things - caffiene, stress, nerves, medication...keep you chin up, I am sure everything will work out for you!  Keep us updated!

Glad to see you started to get the ball rolling... yay! 

As far as this sudden scary news... don't stress.. you are worried about the unknown right now. Like Lindsay said, keep your chin up. Don't let this kick you down. Only worry when you actually find out that there IS something wrong.

Thanks ladies! Just was not something I expected and it was kinda scary to hear about!

Probably a "vagal" response, that happens when some foriegn object stimulates the vagus nerve(from either end) and some people are very sensitive to this.
