PRE-OP TESTING COMPLETE
Yesterday (8/24) was my pre-op testing (admissions) at Roger Williams Hospital. My appointment was at 10AM. Since I can sometimes be impatient.. I kept track of how long I was there and exactly who I dealt with. And let me just say, they were working on a tight schedule.. they did not leave room for error LOL: Here it goes:
10:00 AM: Spoke with general Nurse. She verified all my information (DOB, address, insurance, next of kin, medical will, etc.). This is where I signed SO MANY CONCENT FORMS... One for release of information for my PCP, one for contact purposes (who I am allowing the hospital to leave messages with, etc).. HIPAA forms,... you name it, I had to sign it!
10:15 AM: Spoke with Bariatric Nurse. She took my blood pressure, Oxygen levels, and temperature. She gave me hand outs on the following: handling pain after surgery, instructions pre-op (day of), and also a handout about Hibiclens (and a free sample packet of it) to wash my belly with it the morning of surgery. She explained the pre-op intructions in detail.
10:25 AM: Spoke with the Anesthetic Nurse. She asked me all about my medications-- what kind? dosage? what are they taken for?--- She then told me which ones I was ALLOWED to take the morning of the surgery. She asked about any surgeries in the past, if I ever got sick from anesthesia, etc. She explained that they would put in an IV to get me relaxed and then finally mask me to put me out. There is a breathing tube down my throat, so she said I will wake up with a possible sore throat.
10:35 AM: Was taken by the phlebotomist (Rachel) to another room. She was drawing 6 tubes of blood from me. She had trouble finding a vein, since I did not drink a lot of water the night before.
10:45 AM: Rachel did an EKG. Literally only took a few minutes.
10:50 AM: Off to X-RAY DEPARTMENT! I had to get naked from the waist up... put on a johnny.. they literally took me right in.. and took a side view and a back view of my chest. I then went back to get dressed and gathered my things to leave.
I was walking out of the hospital and was sitting in my car by 11:05 AM !!
