Hey ladies and gents!

I'm still in the preop stage but I was curious about something so I thought I would ask my fellow peers.. No sushi is not for everyone but I certainly adore it, I'm wondering will I have to give it up after I have my sleeve, or will it be fine to eat it?   and if so how long after your surgery were you able to enjoy a great piece of sushi?

My mom had RNY about 7 years ago, and is still successful, and now eats sushi but I know she probably at least waited a year to have it. So yes you will be able to have it I'm just not so sure how long you will have to wait. To be honest though, after surgery you wont be hungry for a while. I know its kinda hard to believe you wont, but you really wont. It's awesome.

I'm actually looking forward to not wanting to eat lol. but thanks that helped me out a lot, I guess I will have to ask the dietician at my surgeons office how long it will be till I can. Glad to hear your mom is still successful after many years!

I have seen lots of people talk about eating it once they're far enough out, so you should be fine. They do say that the rice tends to expand in your tummy, so they can only eat a few pieces if they get it with rice. Another option is to find a place that will do cucumber rolls instead. The sushi place I go to has a few rolls that use cucumber instead of rice, and while I haven't had the chance to try them yet, I'm definitely going to!

oh sushi! everyone told me LOTS! of stories before surgery. like i wont be able to eat rice or bread again and stuff. it is true for some people, but im able to eat rice and bread very early out. i wasnt able to eat like a whole bunch of it. but it feelt kinda good.
sushi. ummm i was a great sushi eater before! n im  a sushi eater now!!!. nerly out it was hard to enoyed it like it didnt taste the same n i could barely eat 3 pieces if i was lucky. now i can taste it again n i love it! if they are small pieces and im really really hungry i could be able to eat a 10 piece one. but normaly i have like 7 pieces or so. but i'd be hungry soon after eating it. but its good on my tummy so. I'll say take it easy at 1st and then with time you can start including it in your diet. there its lots of things i ejoyed before surgery that now i like craving n then i have like 2 or 3 bites n im like ehh it wasnt that good. so yeah your taste can change a lil. but the good news is that you wont miss it. so u'll be fine
good luck!

woot, mariana's back! lol

Sushi will be fine after surgery...eventually. Just wait a few months before you try it :) although I think the official stance is "protein first" - in which sushi is mostly carbs with a little bit of protein.
