4 Days Out

 Yay, go me.

Question tine: did any of you still have gas at 4 days out? I CANNOT get rid of it. My surgeon said it was ok and thats why he sent me home, but still, it hurts and I don't know what to do about it. I'm easing up on my pain meds because I know that they can slow down organs (esp. because they ended up giving me oxycodone) to 3 before bed and then sparsely during the day. I've been walking TONS (inside, outside, even down stairs) but I burp a lot and I think I've farted once or twice. Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions to help?? The gas gets so bad that I can feel it in my shoulder...sigh.

Thanks for the advice. Otherwise, I'm doing great. The only real pain I have is from gas and my scar (more like scabs) look perfectly normal. I have to call on monday for my 2 week appt. I'm on full solids but still sticking to more clear stuff. Sugar Free popsicles are superb. and so is cinnamon cappichino protein shake...so far.

The gas is from the surgery and a lot of people feel pain in their shoulders from it. Its because they put air in your abdomin to expand it during surgery and when they close u up they can't get it all out. It will pass. The only suggestion I have is keep walking, hope it gets better soon

Walking helped ease the gas pain the most for me. And sleeping in the recliner! I had gas for over a week though... 4 days out is nothing so don't worry. It will go away soon!

A couple of the vets on the RNY board said gas- X strips are your best friend. Try that maybe it will ease up:)

My shoulder pain was the worst but I knew it would happen. The gas they pump into you so they can have room to work took a week to work its way out of my system. Walking was the only thing that gave me any relief at all.

thanks for the advice girls. I tried sitting downstairs in the common room on the couches for awhile (I have to real "chair" in my dorm room) and it did start to help. I need to go down there more often. Comfy chairs, big TV and mostly empty.

Anyhoo, I am feeling better, I think I'm more nervous now that I'm not getting the right things in me all the time. A friend of mine said that I have to work up to getting EVERY ounce of EVERYTHING in EVERY day, but, I'm trying, and it's hard, but, it's worth it.

Hugs.

Hey!! Hooray for UCSF! My gas pain is pretty much gone, but I do want to get some gas-x just to be sure. I hit one week today and I feel pretty good about it. I went to class and stuff....it was nice. As long as the weather stays like this, I'll be happy.

Also, we have the same name...spelled the correct way :) woo!

How are you doing with things? Have you been managing okay? I like hearing about other people too (especially ones from the same hospital....and with the same name..) Keep in touch and thanks for your support! :)
