Workouts...
so I've been stalled for sometime now, and I've realized that I've been deluding myself on the amount of exercise I get. I've been telling people and even believing in some sense that I'm working out 5 or 6 days per week when I'm really working out like once per week (if that). I'm not really sure how I got to this point since I used to do it quite a bit.
I'm just curious what kind of workouts and what kind of activities some of you further out from surgery like to do. I'm not adverse to the gym but I'm looking for more interesting stuff to do.

Haha, I work out 5 times a week.. if you count walking to class a workout![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/cool3.gif)
First of all, don't set your goal at 5 times a week. Set it at 3 or 4. Monday-Thursday. If you feel you are succeeding at that, Then add an extra day.
I hate when people tell you to take the stairs or park far away. That's for the birds, lol.
Working out isn't fun. The best way to work out is at the gym on a machine. That way, you can measure your distance, calories burned, and heart rate. Then you really do know how much you are working out.
Now if you are an outdoorsy person (I'm not) then I guess working out could be fun for you. Hiking, biking, blading, frisbee etc. are some good activies. On the flip side, though, they aren't as aerboic as running or getting on the elliptical for the same amount of time.
Edit: and since you live in Austin, there are TONS of things to do outdoors!

Its funny you post about this because being 2 weeks out I am so nervous about getting back to the gym. Thing is, I've done the gym regime before when I was trying to lose (and couldn't. Damn insulin resistance) but since I don't feel ready to hit the gym yet I've been walking a mile around the local park 3x a week. I think as long as you make it a priority to get some activity into your schedule its a start.
I have this irrational fear of the elliptical, I've looked at it and considered using it for years but never gotten on. Hopefully when I can get to the gym I can battle this. So funny right? I'm afraid of gym equipment. As a guy though you'll probably be more into weight training especially once you see the result.

I'm not "far out" but I actually DO work out 5-6 days per week because otherwise I gain. I can't even maintain without hard workouts. I have a gym membership, and visit the gym at least three times a week to do 90-120 minutes of hard cardio on the ellyptical, treadmill, stair-stepper, and stationary bike. I also use free weights and weight machines a couple of times per week, and ab-work almost every day. I also love to hike and walk outside. I want to learn to swim properly so I can do laps, am very uncoordinated but enjoy dancing, and I would love to own a bicycle one day. I'm hoping to go rock-climbing soon!
