Anyone had their surgeries while in school? Was it hard...im in nursing school and it is pretty demanding, I can't miss any days really. I was wondering if any of yall any problems with school. How long did yall wait to go back if you took time at all. I'm trying to schedule surgery in with school and work. Good thing I work at a hospital and they are totally cool with it. Thanks!

hi i had surgery while i was in school, i took 10 days off, but im an interior designer so it was lot of computer work and classroom hours,  and i felt just  fine,  just had my water bottle all time with me and it was ok i didnt feel dizzy or anything, of course i walked slower n couldn move much but it was manegable n not pain.
IDK how physically demandin is nursing school  in the course you are now, but for sure u won't be able to carry heavy things n you tummy would still be a lil unconfortable.  but i think you'll be fine, also remember its surgery n its diferent for everyone of us. so it may take less time for you or a lil longer so i say at least you have to be able to skip 2 weeks if it was necesary.
good luck!

Can you get them to schedule it during a break - like in the summer?  This surgery stuff is pretty demanding.  I too though - I am young and I will recover quickly.  Unfortunatly, not true.  You really need to take your time to heal.  Post-op you will fell as though you were hit by a bus and its not easy at all!

I am a Junior at Wake Forest University...and yesterday was my first day back to school since my surgery on Feb 7th.  I had to go back into the hospital two weeks post op because I had a leak and I had to stay in the hospital for an entire week!!  Then we had our spring break too...ugh, but yeah I tried going back about a week after, which was rough, but doable--until I got the leak.  Now I'm having to jump through hoops to drop a class and to catch up.  I wish I would have waited until the summer!!  Good luck!

I had my bypass one summer, followed by arm lift the next, then lower body lift the next. I did them all on my summer breaks from school, and I do think it's important to have that month of recovery before going back. Winter break is also a good option. The summer of my bypass I did actually take summer school for 5 weeks. It was only one class and I just brought my protein with me and I was fine. If your schedule isn't too demanding, and if you aren't a dance major or anything like that, you should probably be okay to go back to school within 2 weeks. Plastics need alot longer healing time though, it was a good month before I wanted to go anywhere.

Thanks Ladies! I was trying to do it during spring break(this week) but that obviously did not happen. I would love to do it during break but I have none until graduation nxt may..I have mental health in the summer which is literally the whole summer then i roll in to the fall semester..oh the joys of nursing! i make 6 months at my job in may so hopefully I can hold off til then to get fmla and be off work to recover.Im just playing it by ear. I still have to turn in my health records which is the last step in the process so i have been hold off on that till i figure out a good date.

If you can, try and get it during Christmas break, that's when I got mine.  It would've been way to difficult to go through such a crazy schedule with the schooling I was going through to even imagine missing a few days for surgery.  Also, if (God forbid) something were to go wrong, it could mess up all of your school and I know you busted your butt to get where you are now cuz nursing school is not easy.  Good luck with your decision!

I was thinking about going in during my break between the end of spring semester and beginning of summer we have like a 3-4 week gap in between whic would be perfect. And I would be able to take off work then too. I have gotten eveything done i just have to turn in my health records but i have been avoiding that while coming up with a plan. I would hate to miss anything in school right now so I think it will work better that way.
