Hi Everyone!!  I'm so excited to be on this site and hear all of your inspiring stories!  I began my process of getting approved for surgery in January, and now on Wednesday I will be setting a date!  I have decided to go with RNY Gastric Bypass...which was a really hard decision for me, but I feel it is the right thing to do.  I can't wait to read more of your stories because they make me feel more comfortable with what I'm about to do myself!   I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on RNY, because I know it is a risky surgery...during and after...let me know!

Still feels unreal to be so close to a new healthy life!!

I think RNY is a garbage surgery that should not be performed. You need your pyloric valve. If you wish to be healthy invest in a DS or VSG.

I think that the DS rocks .. but claiming someone can only be healthy if they go with DS or VSG seems a bit narrow minded to me . . . I mean yeah we get perks.  It rocks only absorbing 20% of fats and 50% of proteins, but we trade off huge commitments for our perks and the fact that we keep the stomach intact just smaller.

It is very easy for people to make the DS an unhealthy choice.  The sheer amount of supplementing that needs to be done in order to keep normal levels may terrify some people.
[Keep in mind that ALL surgeries NEED supplements]
Another way that this could potentially be a hazardous choice for people is if they aren't
willing to educate themselves.  Fact of the matter is that the DS is so little known about that half the time we have to educate our doctors . . . if someone doesn't think they can do that they may not rock their DS and may in fact end up harming themselves.

However, having argued against the DS I think that it is essential to say that it totally rocks if you are willing to dedicate yourself to supplementation and education.  DSers absorb 20% of fats 50% of proteins and unfortunately pretty much any simple sugar . . . It has been shown as the best way to long term keep the weight off . . . in my opinion its the best of the options available.  Its not about dieting.  The DS lifestyle is about choosing protein foods first and keeping carbs low.  [If you can imagine atkins ... you'd rock the DS dietwise].

To the poster:
If you haven't looked into the DS I would encourage you to research ALL options before picking the one that best fits you~  No matter what you decide I wish you the best of luck and a healthier and happier life :)

Live out loud!  How many people's lives have you touched recently?  Pay it forward

Congrats! Today makes me 5 weeks out of my RNY surgery. I am on soft food and slowly making my way to full food and getting all my water in for the day. Make sure you grab some crystal lite flavors before you go in to the hospital it will help when it comes to you drinking the water.

Best of luck. Drop a line if you need anything!
