PCOS and RNY
Hey guys. I'm so glad i found a group of 20 somethings on this awesome site. I'm 21 and was diagnosed with PCOS a little over a year ago. I tried the metformin-no results. Just horrible stomach cramps. Tried diet modifications and the weight kept piling on. Now my BMI is 44 and i'm scheduled for gastric bypass on March 14th. In the process of buying all my vitamins and proteins...can't wait to be on the other side of all this!
hey gril, wellcome to the board. i had PCOS also!
i tryied with hormons, they use birth control to forse your body to ovulate, and it worked for a while until I still feeling crappy for taking the pills.( I was about 15 years old) after a year out of surgery it fixed like magic. i have 28 days cycles now! and I know when im ovulatng n when im gonna get my period its been so awesome to finally be on time and know your body its starting to work again.
they say PCOS can be a cause of obesity or obesity can cause it. IDK but im sure it got fixed when i lost the weight! so hopefully it will happen for you too!
good luck and keep us posted!
hugs.

Before the PCO**** i was about 30 pounds over weight. No need for surgery or anything, just cut the soda out and you'll loose 15 pounds. But since then over 70 pounds has been tacked on which leaves me where i am now. When my doctors mentioned WLS i was like nooo way but then i went and saw all these forums and bypass seems to be what puts you on the other side, the in control side of this disease. I'm so excited to be a woman again! Did you guys find it hard to drink the protein shakes and stay hydrated during the first month or so?
yup it is hard the protein goals at 1st couple of months are not realistic at all! but still have to try to get all of it 'cuz its the "ideal" but take it slow, and at that time your body still have a lot of fat and nutrients to survive so you'll be fine! it is very importatn aswell taht you keep a bottle of water all time with you so yo ucan sip all day long it would help you to not feel dizzy. altho water would taste a lil funy at firts! you can add some crystal light or some flavor to it to make it easier to drink.
good luck!!!!!!

Hey congrats on your surgery date! My periods where so bad pre-op I would have my period literally for months at a time and then not have it for 6 months. About a year and a half post-op with one normal period they went completely normal and have stayed that way for over a year now. I never thought I would be able to have children or even a normal sex life with my periods the way they where and how messed up my hormones where but now all my symptoms have subsided and my Dr needs to do more tests but is actually considering the idea that I was misdiagnosed and all of the hormonal problems where really caused from being so overweight especially since I had some of the excess skin removed and I even surprised my surgeon with how petite and small my body was underneath all the skin so I obviously was not meant to carry that kind of weight and that has a huge affect on your hormones and the way your body works in general. Anyway my PCOS was so bad I didn't believe that even getting to goal would help but like I said it has taken care of all of my symptoms it just takes time. Good Luck!
Did you have insulin resistance? that's what i'm so concerned about because the endocrinologist says it will be full blown diabetes in a couple years. I would much rather be in control of my body than let it run wild and crap out. it's good to see the sucess all you girls have had and i hope to be in the same boat as all of you soon!! =)
Well I am a little older (29 for another couple of months...lol) but I had horrible PCOS with insulin resistance... and I too was like many PCOSers that may period wer so unpredictable, and frequent it made life challenging... Im off the metformin and I am 6mths out... down almost 85 pounds and feel like im back to my " old / pre pcos self!!
I too was opposed to RNY at first, but it was the best decision I ever made!
Although my periods arent exactly normal yet, they have been getting better every month... so i cant wait to be "normal" again!
