Took a major dump while texting:-)
So, I was texting with my good friend nicole (a DSer on here) last night when I had the sudden onset of a dump. I passed out as usual and woke to a few texts about why I was ignoring her. This is the second or third time this has happened while texting. My most sincere apologies for making you the victim of a dump XD:-)
I had the fobi pouch, which is a gastric bypass plus a form of gastric banding to make the pouch permanently restrictive.
I have been researching revision for a few months now, and I've been on the revision forums a lot, so I have learned a lot about the problems with the various procedures from all the posts on there.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with gastric bypass, but It seems that a lot of gastric bypass patients end up needing revision to correct the same complications I'm having, severe dumping syndrome, constant nausea and reactive hypoglycemia. With the standard RNY, there are also a lot of patients longer out who have mechanical failure, such as a dilated pouch and have had major regain. Not all regain is due to mechanical failure of the surgery, but it is many times with the RNY. Mechanical failure rarely happens with the fobi pouch due to the additional restriction, but the complications of dumping and hypoglycemia are the same in the RNY and fobi pouch.
the only surgical intervention to correct the complications of dumping and reactive hypoglycemia (with or without regain) is to reverse the RNY. A surgeon will usually do revision to the sleeve or DS, depending on the patients needs. From the posts that I have seen, revision to the sleeve would only be done if there was a medical reason why the patient couldn't have the malabsorbtion from the DS.

i'm a really healthy eater to be honest, i just need the portion control! i can't even eat THAT much right now, but it is still too much for what i need... i rarely over eat to the point where i'm feeling sick from it. in fact, i can't even remember the last time that happened, i hate feeling sick!
sugar and bleached carbs, potatos, cheese, all of those foods make me feel nauseated and tired when i eat them, so i rarely do. i am not a snacker either, i don't eat chips or any of those things. so, i feel pretty confident VSG is exactly what i need, since my problem is when i eat the amount i should to stay thin, i'm still hungry because my stomach is only 1/4 full.
however, if its different 20 years from now i can always go back for a revision to DS, but i reaallyy don't want to mess with my intestines and malabsorb vitamins.

I'm sure you will do fine. I don't know all the problems that led to regain, but I see a lot of vsgers who end up needing the second part of the surgery. Of course you can't blame a surgery for poor food choices. If someone can't keep off the simple carbs for two seconds, no surgery will cure them.
I think for a lot of people it is metabolic issues that requires the malabsorption.
If you take supplements and get blood work regularly, you won't die from defficiencies. That is myth. Severe malnutrition sometimes happens, which would require surgical intervention, but most of the time it happens to non compliant patients (not diligent with supplements and blood work).
Anyhow, happy superbowl sunday:-)

my regain is a pretty sad story, i had an emotional breakdown and basically didn't leave my house for a few years after i lost about 70 lbs and realized how shallow everyone i knew was... it was heart breaking. but i'm ready for that now!
i started working out less and less and eating more than i was (i was eating VERY little, basically anorexic i guess)
then.. once i gained so much back working out was even harder to do, i had some crazy bruising problems from losing so quickly the first time, and i couldn't use my elliptical anymore because of it

yes i know, but the amount of vitamins i'm required to take now as a VSGer is way plenty enough for me, and far enough out of my budget as it is. i simply cannot afford to see the doctor so much for extra bloodwork or afford the extra vitamins. i will do fine. can always change my mind later, but i really doubt i will.
