For those of you who joined in on the surgery wars (debating choice of procedure), I'm sorry if I came across as an opinionated asshole. lol

When newbies post about surgery choice I want to make sure they can be informed about alternatives, like having the DS instead of just the sleeve part. Also, I am a very fact based person, so I  go by what medical research says on what surgeries are best. I tend to forget personal preference matters also.

Peace:-)

I'm sorry if it seemed like I thought you were an ass! You were very polite through the discussion, and I hope I was too. I just wanted to make sure she knew that she could succeed with just the VSG if it was what was right for her.

Discussion is always a good thing when it comes to picking a surgery. Everyone is of course biased towards the one they had/will have, but for pre-ops, it's always helpful to see what others think of their surgery. If you only get perspectives from one group, you might never know about the others.

Anyway, sorry again! I think you're great and extremely inspirational!

*Gauf*....You opinionated, lol. We won't get into why I think you posted this, LOL.

To me of course it didn't come off that way, and it shouldnt matter that I am a DSr. But its like what I say these days... The truth hurts. I've been around here long enough and active enough in WLS outside of OH, people always think they are the exception to the rule. Talk to me if you folks really think your an exception to the rules...I'll make folks understand what a TRUE exception to medical rule of thumb is. My biggest pet peeve on that front are the "big boned" group, puleeze I've got a 40" rib cage. 22" shoulder width, I SINK in water now, my bone and muscle density is that high.

Folks are still steered to what their doctors or surgeons say they need, instead of doing anything for themselves. These are doctors most just looking for $, medicine is a PRACTICE. It constantly changes. Yes there are folks I would suggest the VSG to. And thoes that need malabsorption the DS. While 2 surgeries isn't ideal...I would rather have the VSG then if malabsorption does turn out to be needed its much easier to just switch the intestines, than a complete take down of another procedure.

And new studies have come out for the VSG.... its looking no better than the RNY for long term stats. Currently 3-5 years.

What bothers me is this idea of bad carbs being just a problem for DSrs, shyt thats a problem for weight gain with ALL PROCEDURES. And the biggest problem for the VSG and Lap Band, as they have no malabsorption to offset extra calories that come in.

Yes surgery is a choice....YOUR CHOICE, not a surgeons, doctors, mothers, fathers, dogs etc etc etc.

Think it all through and know your body. With so many policies having a one WLS per lifetime clause now....BE SMART, many only get one shot now. ETA: Many have the "Well if it doesn't work I'll get the DS later attitude".
