So i'm deathly afraid of losing my precious hair.. typical girl right?

well is the hair loss the same for everyone or is it less for those who are younger?  I've been checking in the VSG forum where many people are losing globs of hair but they are also older.  So for those who have suffered the dreadful hair loss.. was it awful? bald spots? hair coming in all funky?  Please let me know!

I had RNY almost 3 months ago and have experienced a little hairloss, but not much yet. The best thing to do is just make sure you get plenty of protein and take your vitamins!!! I'm a hairstylist and that was a huge concern for me too. I average around 75g of protein every day plus I take 2 multi vitamins, iron, calcium citrate + d, b12, a b complex, and biotin. I know it sounds like a lot, but you won't have to deal with malabsorption like me with the VSG. However, since your intake will be so limited, you'll still have to deal with malnutrition worries and getting all your vitamins is still extremely important!!!

The hair loss is inevitable. Its a side effect of the anthesia. If you have alot of hair you will lose some but not no drastic blad spots etc etc etc. This usually starts happening from 3/4 months post to roughly7-8 months post-op.There is no way to stop it. Once you see it start slowing down, add biotin and up your protein. This will help the regrowth.

Its doesn't come in all funky but it will be more baby soft at first, so after some hair cuts it will start producing that thicker hair.

Don't sweat it to much. Hair grows back...I'd rather get the weight off than anything.

Hey,
First congrats on your surgery and good luck. Dr. Taller is the best and will always stand by you. Second I had gastric bypass just under a year ago. I did have hairloss but it was only noticeable when I was brushing my hair. No one else even notived that I had some hair loss. I did however start using nioxin shampoo to help with the loss. It is expensive but I had a mini freak out moment. Also I added zinc to my supplements and it seems to of helped a lot. Plus hair grows back and the weight loss is so worth it.

i'm almost a year out and the last couple of months have been the worst for hairloss...i'm 22. i have bald spots on my sides you can see when i wear my hair up. i'm a hairstylist and i use the best of the best lol...i've used nioxin for a year and i can't imagine what it would be like if i hadn't started. but it is a part of your body going through a big change...it's almost inevitable :/ i ended up getting a full head of hair extensions...

It depends on your hair type (fine or coarse), how badly you are thinning and if your hair is chemically treated or not. They also sell styling products and reconstructive masque but I don't really have great opinions about both of them.

Hi, I had lap band almost 2 years ago, I lost a fair amount of hair after surgery and it was scary. It didn't come out in clumps or anything like that, just constant loose hairs everywhere. It was all over my clothes, my bed, in the shower, my hair bur**** made it really thin for a while but now I feel I'm back to the amount of hair I had preop...it only too 2 years though lol. I'm sure its different from person to person though

My nutritionist recommended I take 3000mcg of Biotin a day and 15mg of Zinc to help prevent and lessen the hair loss.  I will definitely be taking both!!!

3 months out, started losing a lot of hair.  I had tons to start with though.  I had waist length, curly honey colored hair.  I just chopped it all off tonight to a long bob with a bit of a fringe.  I think it looks super cute!  I thought I would be more upset about it, but not really.
