Hey everyone, I have been so depressed lately! My 2 year surgiversary (sp) is coming up in march, I really wanted to reacy my goal weight by then of 160-170lbs and what have I managed to go and do the last several months...GAIN about 15lbs!!! I was doing so good and working my band and lately that has not been the case. I am eating like crap and not following my rules and I feel like I have really let myself down! I started working out last week and I am still gaining instead of losing...whats wrong with me? I never want to go back to where I was before but I don't have the money to pay for a gym membership or a personal trainer : (   If anyone has any ideas on how I can kick my butt into gear please let me know. I set up an apt with my Dr. for the 27th so if I can just hang in there I'm hoping he will get me straightened out! Thanks for listening to my problem!

I can't tell you exactly what to do, but when I was that close to goal I weighed every morning.I looked at the number and then imagined my goal weight (170, started at 441) and saw myself getting there. That kept me motivated every day. Give it a shot and best wishes:-)

Don't get down on yourself, it does you absolutely no good to be angry with yourself. I'm not 100% on the diet for the band, but it never hurts to keep a food journal, just to see what exactly you're putting in, at what times, and why. It helps to track your habits and trends because it can help you see, hey, at around 4 I get hungry for something crunchy and salty, or at 8 I want a little something sweet. That way you can plan ahead and be prepared for cravings and change bad habits into good ones. Good luck!!!

Hi Brittnie,

Sorry about your gain.

Well I can tell you this.... No one can kick you in the butt or straighten you out other than yourself. Your surgeon is going to tell you, diet, exercise and use your tool. No one can help you but you. You know what you need to do.

As for working out and gaining, actually that is normal at first. When you work out it works and actually semi-breaks down muscle. Which causes extra fluid build up for repair/building, which causes a weight increase. Its the continuing to workout that gets your body used to it and it doesn't over react like that after your on a regular schedual. As all of us are sore after starting to workout if it has been a while, then pretty soon it doesn't effect you. Making sure to get extra protien and drinking plenty of water during and after a workout can help diminish the effects at the start of working out.

Best of luck and keep working for what you want. WLS isn't not a free ride to being thin.

Thanks for your answers everyone, I needed a reminder that surgery was just a tool and that I am the one that has to change! Its a work in progress, just have to get back to the basics and remind myself why I want this so badly!

hey fellow old-timer,

Sorry to hear you're struggling. I think a lot of us are (I certainly am). With working out, you'll gain weight at first so don't let that get to you. I got a pedometer which kept me accountable for movement, but I'm still 25 lbs from goal and struggling. good luck though! never forget how far you've come- that thought will always motivate more than looking at where you've fallen short
As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly!
