brand new - taking my first steps :)
my name is priscilla. i am 24 years old, 5"8 and I weigh 370lbs. i have been a member here for a handful of years, but mostly my activity has been minimum. occasionally i came here to look around, and mostly just envy. my old pcp hadn't even allowed the topic of wls to come up. she told me i needed to lose my weight myself. then, my insurance coverage ended and i was stuck. now thanks to changes in the laws, i am back under my father's coverage for 2 years and today i met with a new pcp.
she told me she fully backs my interest and scheduled me my first appointment with a surgeon in her group. i go next week for my first consultation and depending on my insurance she said i could achieve a surgery date anywhere from 2-9 months.
i don't know what surgery i am going to look into. they mentioned sending me to a seminar where i could learn about the different kinds and what is best for me. i am looking forward to this process and i hope some people my age will friend me. i'd love to have contacts on here to help me with this process. i don't have much support from my family and friends.
thanks to all of you wonderful people, who have clearly achieved miracles. you are my inspiration.

Let me just give you some insiders tips. DO NOT see a surgeon until you know what surgery you want. Most surgeons are not skilled at doing multiple procedures and will sell you what they are capable of.
For your weight, I would only recommend the DS (Duodenal Switch). Please go to http://www.dsfacts.com/
Also there is a forum for that surgery. I would highly recommend you look into it. It has the best long term sucess, especially for someone at your weight.

my pcp told me its just the first consultation for now. he will be sending me to a seminar to decide which procedure would best benefit me. from there i would decide which road i'd be taking. i don't know enough about the different types to make an uninformed decision and i don't intend on rushing through. thanks for the advice though. i will definitely check out that forum.
Hey Priscilla-
Definitely do your research which from what I've read you're ready to do. The one thing I found when doing some of my research is that some people will tell you, I had this surgery and it's the best. Don't get a certain procedure because someone else says it's the best. Get that procedure because it's the best for YOU! No matter what you choose all of us are here to support you! OH is an amazing group of people!
Best of luck in your research!

also, if you're not willing to self-pay check which procedures your insurance covers! my insurance only covers rny and lapband, so it made my decision easier. i didn't even bother doing much research on the others, because i know i would fall in love with one of them and then not be able to get that procedure done. good luck with everything and keep us updated!
