please help!
So I’m writing because I need some advice… if all goes well I should be scheduled to have gastric bypass in Feb.! This is all very exciting and scary all at the same time. My question to you guys is… I am suppose to be on a medical “diet" for insurance reason for 6 months… I haven’t lost any weight… is that bad? Second question is any of you have doubts about getting the surgery done? This is what I really want and need but I’m super scared! Most of my family is not supportive in this and all they do is tell me the horror story about people they know or have heard about. Obvi there are good and bad… that goes for anything in life… I just need some reassurance that I am not the only one who has thought this! Last but not least pain… lol on a scale of 1-10 please be honest with me and tell me your pain level. I seem to think I have a high tolerance for pain but I’m just curios what other people would rate it… THANK YOU… XOXO
i actually gained weight on my 6 month diet and was approved before i even knew the surgeon's office submitted to the insurance company. i really think they do it as more of a commitment thing than it actually working, i mean if i could lose weight on my own i would have done that first. of course you aren't the only one to have doubts! i had them throughout most of the process, hell i still do! i'll be three months out on the 27th and i know i made the right decision, but of course there is sometimes a little voice inside of me saying life would be so much easier if i hadn't had surgery.
as for the pain, i have pretty much no tolerance for pain and i hardly felt any. sometimes it felt weird moving in certain positions but no real horrifying pain. i would say maybe a 3 for the first week or so, a 2 for a week or two after that and by a month out i had no pain at all.

Hey there! My family also was not supportive, but ultimately it's MY life and YOURS so make sure you understand all the pros and cons and make the best decision you can. I had the VSG 6 weeks ago and couldn't be happier-my family was more supportive once I for sure picked this one over rny, but everyone is different and you need to do what's best for you! good luck!
I gained 12 pounds from my first appointment with my surgeon to the day before surgery, and everything was fine.
As for feeling nervous, I almost told my boyfriend to just keep driving as we approached the hospital the morning of my surgery. They had to give me a sedative and some benadryl because I broke out in hives on my face, neck, chest, and arms, I was so nervous. But I went through with it, and even though I have had a few complications, I think it's totally worth it so far. I've lost about 40 pounds in 5 weeks and I feel amazing. Just keep doing research, keep preparing, keep learning. You'll do fine. And you've got your OH family here to support you. The support of your REAL family will come with time.

Pain wise, I have a moderate tolerance for pain. In the hospital pain was very well controlled and I only felt uncomfortable due to the gas pains from lap surgery. By the time i went home my pain was very minimum. It felt like I'd done 1000 sit ups and my stomach muscles were tight and sore. I'm now 10 days out and I only use the pain meds at night. You'll be fine and the pain is totally worth it to see those numbers dropping on the scale!! Good luck!
