is it a rumour???

hello OH members!!
My name is Porcha and I am 20 years old, I am getting the RNY, and my surgery date is 1/11/11... i know.. weird right? i feel like i should be making a wish. haha. But anyway.. Can i just say that i really love the fact that not only can i talk wiith people who are going or have gone with what i am going through but i can hear feedback from people around MY AGE!thats such a comforting feeling!.. Now what i would like to discuss is this statement i see going around that if you are at a VERY fertile age alot of surgeons recommend you go on 2 kinds of birthcontrol?!?!?!?... i just want to know what your intakes are on this.

My surgeon did recommend two types of BC.  It is because your body does not absorb enough vitamins and take in enough calories to support a pregnancy unitl closer to 2 yrs out.  So taking BC pills and using condoms would be two forms of BC.   It sounds more overwhelming than it really is...

Yepp! I was told to be sure to use 2 forms for at least 12-18 months post surgery. I got off the pill bc of absorbtion issues and got put on Nuvaring and used condoms as a back up... even if you are not worried about a pregnancy yourself- it can be risky and unsafe for you and your baby if youre not that far out :) Congrats on your surgery date and i think its GOT to be a lucky day :)

thankyou courtney!! truth be told i dont plan to have kids for Awhile lol.. i saw this subject pop up numerous of times and it definitely worried.. So now i am going to have to see about possibly getting on BC. thanks alot though! =D definitely glad i asked!

im having surgery in 8 big days ;-) I am on Nuva ring right now, but was thinking of switching back to the Depo shot... and use something else like condoms too... anyone been on Depo after surgery?

Congrats on getting your date.  My surgery is actually on the same day, but I'm getting VSG.  Hmm... my surgen never really metioned anything about needing 2 types of BC, but I'm already on the Depo shot so I'm not too worried (plus I'm not even thinking about kids right now).

But I agree you should get on some kind of BC after your surgery and make sure to use condoms or something of that sort as well, just to be safe.
