What are your nonfood-related coping habits?  Mine currently include carbless chai lattes and window shopping with a lot of trying clothes on [helps remind me why self medicating with food would be a fail plan 0.~]

I never used to look in the mirror or be in pictures, so I do a lot of both now. I know the feeling of wanting to overeat, but it's not worth it. Take care :-)

loooove me some ebay!!  i buy a lot of aero and american eagle stuff on there. you can get new stuff with tags still on them for half the regular price!  it hurts my feelings to pay $50 for a pair of jeans and then not be able to wear them a few months later :(

other than that...i surround myself with people.  i eat when i'm bored :(  still struggling with that.

Hey i know this isnt really related to the post, but i have a question. :) I have had to do a 6mth  thing with the dietition and what not before i can have my appt. with my surgeon Dec. 29th is the last appt. for the 6mths for the insurance. Ok. So i was wondering on average, how much weight do ppl lose with the lap band surgery?? and how often. Im ready to be super strict.
Im 22yrs old with a 1yr old son and i wann finally get the weight struggle i have been dealing with my whole life, under control. My bmi is 46, Im 334lbs and 5'11''. Compared to most my weight im very active and hold myself well, at least thats what the nutritionist and everyone say. Sooo yea that was kinda long. If anyone else has a similiar story to mine in anyway can u give me some more info if u have had the surgery already?? thanx

The lap band isn't always encouraged for people who have a lot to lose . . . and, to be honest, by the time I looked in to surgery I had heard enough horror stories to not give it a chance in hell.  With a BMI of 40+ I would encourage you to look into the VSG or the DS, however . . . better longer term results by far.  And since this is the 20s board we have to assume that we will all have a long post op life.

You may have better luck posting on the lapband board or making a new thread if you want more information on that surgery.

Good luck to you~

Im having RNY (11/8) but my surgeon required 10% weight loss before surgery.  I had to do the 6 month thing and my surgeon counted my original (month 1) recorded weight.  Good luck to you.

When I first had my surgery 5 or 6 years ago, I found that shopping, walking (8 -10hrs at my leisurely), and dancing the night away were great coping habits.

Nowadays, putting in time at the gym on the elliptical helps me with keeping myself in check and not over-indulging as I used to.  It also ups my spirits with the endorphins that are pumped in my body, so I'm much more happier.
