Hi, all. My names Cherish I am 21 and currently doing all my pre operative testing to get Lap Band. As a stroke of good luck I found that my insurance doesn't require the 6 month supervised diet letters. So the faster I get my testing done and save 300$, which is not easy since I don't work and my bf works part time. The faster I can change my life. I love these boards and am happy to have found one for people in their 20s. I get a lot of flack from my family for getting the surgery so young. But I don't care. i just wanted to tell you guys my story real quick. when i was 24 i jumped in and had lapband..i lost no weight. couldnt get the right fill level cuz i started having horrific acid reflux. i would vomit up everything. also with lapband you will be dieting your way down so i hope you are good at that. chicken hurt me, breads and pasta forget about it. and on top of it i just had the band out in april and now im looking into the VSG...which is gonna be tricky because the crapband leaves so much scar tissue. it is ultimately your decision but before its in i really recommend thinking about what youre doin. i wish i woulda listened before i did it. im now on PPI's for life. read the revision boards and talk to people. the lapband one day will be taken off the market..even the manufacturers agree that its a failure...just sayin. good luck in any case.

Nancy, Thank you very much for the heads up about the lap band. I appreciate that! However, I was already decided on the VSG. I guess I should have been more clear in my post. After doing extensive research about WLS before starting this process, I was sold on the VSG. I too think that the VSG is a better alternative rather than the lap band, but the choice resides with each individual person.

I too decided against lap band and am looking into RNY. There are too many complications with the Band for my linking and my insurance doesnt cover VSG. Thank you nancy
My insurance doesn't cover the VSG either but I got it on my second appeal and it only took one week. I will not recommend a surgery to anyone. But please fight for what you want.
