I've been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia (when your stomach pushes up through the hole in your diagphram and into your chest cavity).  Has anyone else been through this post-RNY?  Did they wrap a portion of your stomach around your esophagus or simply reposition your stomach and close up the hole in the diagphram.  Any advice is very welcome.

My hernia was, what is called an internal hernia, and from what you are describing farther down maybe so I'm not sure if what they did for me is even in the same ballpark.  My surgeon basically just said he pushed the intestines back through and repositioned everything.  My intestines were also twisted so he..well...untwisted them..lol. I also had some scar tissue as well but I had 3 prior surgeries, RNY included so that was to be expected.   Very short, easy surgery and recovery...in fact I was on a vacation in the Bahamas less than 10 days from surgery.  So far no problems have reoccurred.

I hope that your surgery goes well and is as minimally invasive as possible!

So good news: Radiologist misread my UGI and I do not have a hiatal hernia.  Gallbladder surgery went well and they cleaned up some adhesions at the same time.  Phew.
