My kind of crowd-Hello all
Hello all,
I have posted on the Lapband forum before I found this page. It's so nice to have a community of people my age that are going through the same things. We are able to discuss the type of things that we are experiencing, both WLS related and life related. I had LapBand surgery in February of 2009. I didn't really follow up with my surgeon as much as I should have and well, life got in the way.
The last fill that I had was back in September and since that fill, things got kind of hectic. My birthday was in November, then the holidays in Decemeber. I took a 2 week trip to Paris, France over Christmas and New Year's and then moved into my own apartment (I moved out of my roommates house). Then, just when I thought things were getting back to good, I found out that my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer).
After he got diagnosed, I made it a priority to get back on the wagon and lose the weight. I had a fill done at the end of May and had 6 cc.s in my band. I lost some weight. I went back this past Wednesday and had another cc put in and continue losing weight. I know that some people may not consider this an achievement, but I am 1 pounds from being in the 250's. Considering I was at 270 at the end of May, I consider this something to shout about.
I stumbled on this forum about 2 weeks ago and have fell in love with it. Everyone is so supportive. It's such a great place to meet people, get motivation, and for the times that you feel like you aren't progressing-it's a great place to realize that other people are in the same boat.
My goal is to get to my goal weight by the end of next year. I mainly want to lose the weight because I don't have much time left with my dad-maybe 1-3 years. And while the emotional rollercoaster reaks havoc on me, my Dad is being my biggest supporter. He hasn't told me, but I think he wants to be able to see me at a healthy weight before he passes.
I want to do this for me, but now more importantly I want to do it for him. I want to be able to get married and have him walk me down the aisle and I want to have that father/daughter dance. And as superficial as society may be, if it takes getting the weight off to be able to have someone interested in me and potentially find a life partner, I want to do it.
After my fill on Wednesday, I was having problems keeping things down-namely because I was trying to take it too fast. I got a call from my dad asking me if I wanted him to bring me some protein shakes, so that I could get the nutrients that I needed. He even offered to bring them to me. He lives an hour away.
It sucks that it takes something life changing to get us to a point that puts things into perspective, but I found this to be the greatest motivator of all.
I appreciate that everyone is supportive of everyone on this site. Even if we didn't have the same type of surgeries, we are all going through the same battles and celebrations.
Thank you. Please send me a friend request. I would love to keep in contact with everyone.
PS....I have some pics on my Paris trip if you would like to see them.
Happy Friday!!!!!

I am terribly sorry to hear about your father, enjoy every minute that you have with him (you don't need me to tell you that though because I'm sure you already do). Congrats on your surgery you are doing great! I am at the end of my losing point I have about 30lbs left and I need to get motivated so that I can get to my goal. I had the realize band and it has been an awesome journey. Try to take smaller bits and eat more slowly that will help to keep the food down. Good luck and keep posting on here it is a wonderful forum everyone is great

total I have lost about 110lbs. I lost 35lbs prior to surgery so that would leave me with about 75lbs lost in the year following surgery. Now I haven't really lost much in the last several months but I'm ok with that, I really need to go in for a fill and get back to my work outs (I've been a slacker lately). Stick to the rules and work out and it will come off. Good luck and hope that helps
