Hi all! I'm new to the site and have just been browsing for a few weeks. My surgery date is July 13th, and I'm trying to get a head start on my liquid diet since my dr. requires 10% loss before surgery. I haven't been able to make it all day without eating something. What did everybody do to make sure they didn't let the hunger get to them??

hi! and welcome!

the liquid diet sucks! theres no other way to put it. my surgery is this coming tuesday and i am on all protein shakes now. Everytime i see a piece of food i want to shove it down my throat but then i think, oh my god, i am having gastric bypass surgery in one week. for you it's a little over a month but believe me it will go by so fast. do you have to be on liquids only for the whole month. I did 3 weeks of shakes and protein bars then this last week i'm just doing liquids. i'm on my third day and it is just routine now. Always, have water with you, and prepare what you are going to eat throuhout the day. it aint no walk in the park but just think in a month, you will be starting your new life!!!

good luck and keep us updated!

 Hi!  Welcome to the board!

I only had to do a liquid "diet" the day before surgery to prep my stomach, so I'm not really much help in that department.  However, I did lose 10lbs pre-op by drinking slim-fast for breakfast and eating really super healthy the rest of the time.  I'm not sure I, or many people for that matter, would be able to make it a whole month on just a liquid diet.  It's probably fine to do it most days of the week if you can but if you need food, just make good choices like high protein, vegetables and fruit.  WATER too...don't forget that!

Are you exercising?  That will help too.  Aim for 30 mins a day to start with.  Break it up into 10 minute intervals if time is an issue.  Go for walks, lift some weights, play Wii...just do something to get your body moving!

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! I don't have to be on the diet the whole month, I just think that's about how long it's going to take me to lose the 10% I have to before surgery. (because I chose laproscopic)
I'm back on the liquid wagon tomorrow! Wish me luck!
