alcohol really can be a problem!

Hey everyone! It's been so so long since I've even been on this site, but after my recent struggles I thought this was the place to turn! I'm 3 years and almost 5 months post-op. I started my journey somewhere around 285...amazing that I don't even remember that number nowadays. My lowest was in December of 2007 when I weighed 138.

The first 2 years of weight loss were good to me. However, I lost sight of what was important to me (getting re-married to the love of my life had nothing to do with this...NOOO!)! I knew I had gained some weight, but just how much I had no idea! Last Sunday, I stepped on the scale and when the number 196 flashed before my eyes I was baffled

However, this gave me the jump start and wake up call I so needed! Over the past year or so, I became very fond of my ngihttime friend...wine! We had a great relationship. It helped me sleep and make it through the night. The scale really did alert me as to the fact that alcohol can play a HUGE role in our regaining process. I didn't drink to get drunk, but I did drink to relax my mind. People in our age group really need to know that alcohol is an ENEMY.

In 7 days now, I have not touched a drop of wine or alcohol! In a week I've managed to loose 14lbs with the help of the South Beach Diet and Jillian Michaels and her butt kicking Wii workouts!

Beware folks...Alochol is not the way to go!

Much love,
Kerri

Thank you for sharing your story and passing along the important message about alcohol.  Like you said, even not drinking to get drunk can still add pounds.  I like  to have the occasional glass of wine or Mike's Light but even those are still 100 calories each..that's why I try to keep it to occasional.

Congrats on getting back on the wagon!

Thanks for sharing this I'm 2 years post op and over the past few weeks have started having a glass of wine or a drink 3-4 nights a week and I never used to drink... in the back of my mind I've been worried about it but ignoring it until I read your post. So seriously thank you for sharing it's not easy to share things your not proud of but your post kind of forced me to think about what I'm doing.

Bree...

Thank you. You're so right....it's never admit our faults, but if there's one thing I've learned fessing up to it and talking about it is a good start point. I have successfully gone 12 days now without even the slightest drop of alcohol. I got into the mentality that if I didn't have it at night, I couldn't sleep. Well, I quickly found in these past 2 weeks, that's so not true.  I've also gotten back into my workout and focused more on that then anything else. I've managed to drop 18 lbs now and I'm wearing the shorts I wore last summer...and they're starting to get LOOSE!!! :) I am helping my friend with her physical fitness test for the Army and today we both successfully did a run/walk of 2 miles in 17 minutes!!! Amazing for me!

I do plan on going to dinner tonight with my husband for a night out and I will have 1...just 1...glass of wine. I know that we're not supposed to reward ourselves with foods or such, but I deserve that one glass with dinner. Do I need it? No! But I'm going to allow myself and not feel guilty about it.

My family had expressed some concern and I put that big denial button up there and said...No Way not ME! I've come to see that we're not perfect and we have faults and once we discover these faults they're so much easier to deal with.

Hang in there and best wishes for success!

Lots of love
Kerri

Alcohol is such a jerk for making us gain! Its loaded with calories! I used to drink 3 bottles pre-surgery, and now I drink maybe once a month. Yea!
I was concerned with replacing my need for food with a need for alcohol, so I stayed away as long as I could.  I saw an Oprah about women who had the surgery then turned to alcohol or sex as a replacement for food. Yikes! didnt want that happening to me!
I can always spot the drinker now, they are the one with the round face! I went to a wedding for a high school friend an could tell which ones drank on a regular basis.... they looked puffed up.
I would rather be skinny then drunk!
Congrats girl!
