Thanks Mariana, this is always a great reminder.  I know they tell us pre-op what to take and what not to take but sometimes it gets pushed to the back of our minds because of other worries!  The detailed list like that is great.

I know I always took advil, motrin, etc. pre-op so it actually was a switch going over to just Tylenol for pain.  Sometimes we just pop a pill for a head ache or whatnot but it's so important to really watch what we take all the time...just like we do with food!

Thanks again for the post!

Thank you Mariana :) This is wonderful. I know that pre-op the only thing I can take that will actually work for a headache is Motrin. It's definitely going to be a challenge to change my old habits. I'm hoping that once I'm healthier I won't get migraines as much.

Can I know why these are so harmfull? I mean, I can take them now before surgery so why couldn't I take them after? I'm an Advil popper when I've got aches and pains so do I revert back to Tylenol?

Because any form of ibuprofen, Motrin, asprin and neproxin sodium are known to cause possible stomach issues like ulcers...it's printed right on the bottle.   Since our stomachs are much smaller, they just don't want us to take the risk of developing something like that.  For someone with a normal stomach there is still a risk but an ulcer would be less of an issue.

I think that any pill you take has some sort of small risk of something...even Tylenol can be harmful if you have more than 3 alcoholic beverages a day.  Most people don't realize the risks of OTC medicine but there are quite a few if you take the time to read the drug info on the bottle.

I thought for sure I'd never get use to just Tylenol but it actually works very well.  If you take the liquid kind, that seems to kick in a lot faster than a pill....at least for me.

NSAIDS in a "pouch" can cause HORRIBLE ulcers....which lead to holes in ur pouch which leads to revisions and or several other problems....

Prior to surgery you can do a lot of things you cant do afterwards....ITS A WHOLE DIFFERENT BALL GAME!  LOL.

GOOD LUCK!

I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering if there was a baby yet!!   How are you feeling?  Be sure to let us know when he/she (I assume she since your ticker was pink!) is born and post some pics too!!  :-)    Good luck on a smooth delivery!
