Gym question...
Hi guys,
I have a question about a gym membership. I am 3 months out, lost about 50 lbs, and have done no exercise. The whole no exercise thing is because I have been fighting a complication of a stricture so I have been in and out of the hospital since Feb. My doctor thinks that I am headed to recovery finally and that the stricture is finally going to be gone. It better be since I have had 10 dilations.
So I was just wondering how many of you go to the gym? Do you think it has helped with the loose skin? When did you start going to the gym?
Thanks for all of the support.
Nathalie

going to the gym and building muscle will help with everything. if you didnt have those complications and went to the gym that whole time you probably would be closer to a 70-80 lb loss.
i am pr-eop so i cant say i know what its like to excercise after the operation, but i go to the gym 5 days a week and i am definatley seeing results eating way more than i will be post op.

Hello!
The great thing about exercise is that it's never too late to start.
I started seriously exercising about 6 years ago and I started getting back into my routine about 2 weeks out of surgery. The key is to start slow and build up, otherwise you will get burned out or injure yourself. Right now I go to spinning class twice a week, cardio class (kick boxing or step) 2 times a week, lift weights at least 3 times a week and do either elliptical or other machine cardio 1-2 times a week. I do run too but I am nursing an IT band/hip problem so I have to take a break from that. I'm currently training to teach group fitness and become certified.
Exercising has improved about every area of my life. I have endless energy, my blood numbers and over all general health are great, I have tons of endurance and stamina, etc. etc. My lose skin is way better than I ever thought. I was really worried about my arms but I wear tank tops all the time without any self consciousness. Granted, lose skin is different for everyone but weigh training and toning will help that and help just tone you in general.
Good luck to you and my biggest advice is not to be afraid. You are in charge of your workout and it's for you, not anyone else. I have gotten a lot of support from the people at my gym, they are chock full of info so don't be afraid to ask any questions you have about exercise or fitness.

Hey there!
I love the gym!! I started going just to walk on the treadmill at about 2 weeks post op. I now work out 6 days a week (sometimes only 5). I do 2 days with a trainer and work on core and strength, I swim about 2 days a week, and do other cardio as well (anything from the elliptical to running). You could say I'm an endorphin junky!
I highly recommend you join a gym, or start working out. Not just to help you tone, or lose weight (remember your "honeymoon" phase wont last forever...eventually you'll have to start WORKING to lose weight), but because its just downright good for you! Our bodies were made to move! And trust me when I say you will feel soooo much better after you work out, and you will have more energy.
Good luck!

Thanks. I actually joined La Fitness :) Went yesterday and got my butt handed to me. I really need to just work up to it and not go full force.
