Fitbits are awesome

So, I just wanted to give a random little 'plug' for this nifty thing that I got which has been totally helping me in my weight loss/ weight maintainance saga.

Before I go into it, let me just start by saying that I had a terrible time with WLS- I had two failed surgeries and I guess what you could say I have right now is a large sleeve-ish stomach. So I'm having to do a lot of work to keep any weight loss, really.

i got a fitbit for christmas, and it was so back ordered I didn't get receive it till april, but the little bug is soooo worth it. it's only 100 bucks, and it tracks my steps and my sleep. best thing about it is that its battery last for freaking ever. it almost nevers needs to be charged. anyway, it has done wonders in helping me understand my usual activities, and energy expenditure, etc. it's very motivating for me to get up and take those extra 20 steps, cause it's going toward my daily goal and such. its really easy, hardly any setup, very user friendly and very small

if anyone is curious about anything or has any questions, their website is fitbit.com or i'd be happy to answer any i know.

When you posted that you received one of these for Christmas, it sparked my interest.  I haven't gotten one (my husband can't seem to justify the purchase) but I'd really like one.  I like the idea that I can carry it around with me out and about just to see what activity I'm getting that can't necessarily be tracked.  Self-uploading and all the other cool features are awesome about it too.  It doesn't seem like it's a ton of work to operate.

Thanks for sharing!  It's always nice to hear testimonials from real people who actually use the product.   It makes me want one even more!

haven't tried the body bug, though I heard other OH members sing their praises. I remember looking up a comparison when mom told me she bought a fitbit, and I ended up deciding I like the fitbit enough to not switch [since it was backordered, i could have gotten a bug instead]. i think I actually read some comparisons online somewhere. i imagine it's similarly great.

yeah, the graphs are awesome. the accountabilty is awesome in general. the fact that I consciously take longer routes and try to get more runs in just so I can see my graph jump into the red each day is SO awesome.

i just looked up the bodybugg's info to compare the two- the bodybugg seems to be much more thorough in it's readings- it does temp, sweat, motion, heart rate, whereas fitbit just does motion. however, fitbit is still pretty accurate and there are several things i think are better- 1. its much smaller, and can clip anywhere 2. it monitors sleep 3. it shows your numbers on the actual device, whereas you have to buy an add on or just look at it on the computer for bodybugg 4. the reviews say that the upload process isn't very user friendly, whereas the fitbit is a cinch. but I guess the most compelling is that bodybugg costs twice as much AND requires a subsciption to keep it going. fitbit only had 1 thing to purchase, and there are no subsequent costs.

so i guess it depends on how much you value accuracy or convience or moolah. i bet both of them are pretty good.

I agree I did some of my own homework and I think that the fitbit would be all I need.  Plus I just can't justify spending $200 and still having to pay a monthly subscription fee
