mirena..
hey!
so yesterday i was at my gyno & got my mirena bc (iud) inserted. OMG it hurt incredibley bad..
i thought they were going to numb me or something.. note to anybody out there, if you are getting one, take some tyenol before hand!
so question for ya'll who have mirena,
a. how long did you bleed for after the insertion and how long did the cramps last?
b. has your periods ever stopped after having it for a long time?
c. how have you dealt with the horomones?? when i was on yaz i went bizzerk!!
im going on vacation next tuesday and yesterday they told me i could bleed for as long as 6 months after getting it inserted!!
and today i left work early because the cramps they told me to expect were so bad, i was almost laying on the floor in my back room :(
thank you to anybody in advance for sharing your experiances!

Yea having the Mirena inserted is not fun at all! Have you had kids? I haven't and they said that's why it was rougher on me.
a. how long did you bleed for after the insertion and how long did the cramps last? I think I bled for 3-4 days. Pretty heavy the first couple of days. The worst of the cramps were for that first few days also after that it was just random sharp cramps that lasted for a few seconds and then went away. Those lasted for a couple months but were rare (thank God as I almost wrecked when I had the first one!).
b. has your periods ever stopped after having it for a long time? After about 4 or 5 months I stopped having a period WOO-HOO. Of course after having surgery I randomly have intermediate bleeding for about 3 hours lol but that's due to the estrogen being released.
c. how have you dealt with the hormones?? No problems with the hormones until after my RNY which also was due to the estrogen being released from my fat cells. I was also on Yasmin before Mirena and didn't have any issues with hormones then.
You will have more bleeding and cramping for the first 6 months or so as your body gets used to the Mirena but it's really not that bad especially if you get to be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have a period at all.
I had mine placed pre-WLS so I was able to take Ibuprofen, I would suggest that if the cramps get too much worse maybe calling your gyno and seeing if they can prescribe something that would help during the first few days. Try a heating pad to it works wonders!
I know it's hell right now but trust me it's worth it!

I just bled a bit heavier and cramped a little more than normal when I had my period for the first 6 months or so. I didn't bleed the entire time. I did have occasional spotting but nothing too bad.

hope u have better luck than me mine hurt really bad at insertion and countinued to hurt for days to follow when i went back for the follow up u/s to check placement it was mia and pertruded through my uterus and was floating around in my abdomen!! and i had to have it surgically removed!! good luck hope it gets better for ya!
I love my mirena! I didnt think it hurt that bad but it was probably because I had a baby 6 weeks prior but my experience has been awesome. I love it so so so much!
A. I bled for about 3 days after I had it inserted and I had cramps the day it was inserted.
B. After the 3rd day, when I stopped bleeding, I never bled again. It's been a year and I still havent had a period. Its freakin awesome. But i do have to say that about once a month i do get a little cranky and crampy, so Im pretty sure thats when my period is "supposed" to be.
C. Its actually helped with my hormones. I used to be overly emotional and irrational around my periods but I think its really helped even out my hormones. Its so much better than BC because i gained so much weight and i was such a major ***** on the pill! lol
Good luck, i hope it works out for ya!
