I am reeeally wanting to buy a pedal bike, does anyone else ride a bike? how long post-op do you think you should go before attempting to ride one? I ordered one today, it might take a couple weeks to come in, and i am only 1 week post-op, but am thinking by the time it gets it, i might be far enough in for some good ol' fashioned bicylcling! any tips/suggestions?

I don't ride bikes, unless you count the stationary ones at the gym. lol I was always so scared of falling when I was little, that my mom could never get me to even try. Sometimes I really wish that I could/did. Maybe I'll make that a goal of mine! lol

As for how long you should wait post-op. I'd probably say you need to wait until your cleared for exercise. Your still healing and it wouldnt be good if you were to fall. Plus, over using muscles that you haven't used in awhile might be rather uncomfortable, and you'd be surprised how many of those are abdominal muscles, and right after surgery you might be in for a real shocker. I'd talk to your surgeon about it!

Good luck though!

I think whenever your bike comes you should be able to ride it.  I was back in the swing of it all within 2 weeks of surgery.  Wear a helmet and have fun!!!

I started riding my bike two weeks after surgery. I ride both outdoors and on a stationary bike indoors. When I first started I just went by how my incisions felt. Just listen to your body and you will be fine :)

I too bought a bike after surgery. I bought a hybrid bike with a lithium battery assist. So I am working my way up to riding all by myself. I live on a mountain, so it is a lot of hills. With the assist bike I can tell it how much to help me out or not at all if I dont want it to.

I bought the higher end of all available bikes (off the internet, some assembly required) and it was a great purchase. I can ride for hours which I wouldnt be able to do otherwise. I am not "scared" of going on a longer route because I might be too tired to get back home. If that happens, I just turn on the full assist and the bike will actually drive home under its own power.

I highly reccommend something like this as it makes the progression a bit easier from (more than likely) a little to no excersize to a more regular workout program.
