My surgeon mentioned something briefly about how he wants me to stop my birth control before the surgery.....I'm gonna call him tomorrow and find out exactely when but didn't anyone elses surgeon have them stop their BC? and if so how long before the surgery? My date is 4 weeks from today and I'm not sure if I should have stopped it already...thanks

It is a blood clot thing.  My surgeon had me stop 6 weeks before surgery and then wait until I was 3 months out to start again...sucks I know, but blood clots really freak me out, so I wasn't going to quesiton it.

I never stopped mine... i know that most surgeons have concerns about clotting but my surgeon gave me some injections to prevent blood clotting that i had to take for 10 days.  They were the self injections (looked like a insuline shot)...

I stopped my birth control a month before my surgery. I'm about 5 weeks out now and havent started back up again (and not sure when i can start again!). Good luck with your surgery!

I had to stop 1 month pre-op and stay off it for 2 months post-op.

I'm on Depo, but even if I was on pills my Dr has your stay on BC.  He gave me something for clotting during surgery.  His reasoning is because he wasn't cutting into the legs there's a lower risk for clotting.  I didn't have problems and he said he's never had an issue over the years.

Its for the prevention of blood clots, some BC increase the risk of getting them due to the hormones. I was already on the Minerna IUD prior to surgery, so I was fine.

If you want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never, give up!

I only knew of my date a few days before the surgery, and I asked the nurse if I could take my birth control pill while I was supposed to not eat or drink anything right before the surgery. She told me I could. So I did, but never thought it through properly. Cause that was the last time I took the pill. I didn't want the hormones affecting my WL process. But 2 days after I stopped (still in hospital), I went to the bathroom to see that I had gotten my period. I had just gotten it a week before. But a combination of the trauma, and the not taking the pill, cause it to come early. It freaked me out...wasn't expecting that.
