Hey all- I had surgery last Monday March 22nd, and it went well.  I am at home recovering, and so far have lost 8 pounds which feels amazing!!  I was wondering how long it took for you to get back to "normal" energy post surgery, and when you feel like yourself?

Also, any adice on soft foods?  I am dying for some fresh fruits, but my nutirionist said only canned in water fruit.  Let me know!  Thanks for the advice!!

Well, it depends on what you mean by feeling better...I was feeling well enough to get through my day and even interview for my job by about 2 weeks out.  I started my job when I was about a month out, and I was pretty much okay, but extremely tired at the end of the day.  I teach 8th graders, so it's a little energy intensive sometimes.

However, I did feel like I had done way too many sit-ups for about a month and laughing was quite painful too.  But in the scheme of things, I was pretty lucky I think.

As for advice on soft foods, what about greek yogurt with nsa preserves mixed in?  If you add sf cheesecake pudding to the yogurt it tastes remarkably like the real thing.  That's a favorite snack of mine and soft food appropriate.  At that point I ate a lot of cottage cheese and ground beef concoctions (esp. Chili), but my advice is to be patient.  I remember thinking I must have a robo-pouch early on because I could eat almost everything I tried.   Not so much anymore...eating really has become an adventure..but that's the next challenge.

Hope this helps!

I struggled with low energy for a long time post-op... I didnt feel fully 'normal' until at least 6 months and even then had rough days... really once I was over a year out did I feel good and had more energy consistnatly.

I was allowed to eat fruit as long as it had no seeds/strings/skin... so no citrus, no grapes... basically you are better with the canned water fruit or stuff like apple sauce or pear sauce... your main focus at this point is protein anyways and that is hard enough to get in without even thinking of the fruit :-)
