Need to get back on track

I had WLS over 2 years ago,  at my one year mark, I had fallen to a "unhealthy" weight per my doctor and was going through vitamin deficiency  and was given 3 weeks to pull it together before she was going to hospitalize me.  Well I was able to do so.  Then 6 months ago, I moved states by myself and started a new life.  I feel like I have started to pick up old habits.  Over the past year when I was working on becoming "healthy" again, I have gained about 15-20 lbs.  I want to get those pounds back off, but do it in a healthy way.  I need a way to "jump start" and get back into the swing of things.  I feel like my portions that I am eating are to much, and I am snacking and eating junk food.  Any advice?  I need to stop this before I lose control.

 Hi!

Sounds like you've been through a lot in the past two years.  I understand your frustration with food and trying to stay on track.  I've really taken some steps to finally make peace with food and myself.  I have a bad habit of creating this food world for myself where my goals and ideas are unreachable and not realistically possible...because of the all or nothing attitude.  I'm slowly realizing that I can't keep up this cycle until I'm 80..what kind of life is that?

You said that you were at an unhealthy weight, which I'm going to assume means that you were underweight.  Do you necessarily NEED to lose the 15-20lbs you gained?  If it means you are at a healthy weight I wouldn't worry so much about the number on the scale.

What you can do is try to work on the snacking and junk food.  One easy solution is not to buy any!  I didn't buy any trigger foods the last grocery trip and wouldn't you know, I actually at like I should because the crap wasn't around.   Food logging always helps me just to maintain accountability.  Regular exercise too!

Good luck!

I guess UNhealthy weight was the wrong term, the way that I got there was unhealthy. I lost alot of weight very quickly.  Friends and Family were saying that I looked to skinny, and not healthy, my hair was falling out by the chunks,  however I did not view myself that way.  I am 5"6 and at 160 lbs.  I would like to be about 140 ideally.
Sometimes I wonder if my pouch was broken, because what filled me up 6 months ago, does not fill me up now.
It's very difficult for me as well as my Doctor has basically fallen off the face of the earth, no follow up since my 6month.  I had to contact them at the year mark because of the problems I was having.

I'm very glad you are healthier now.  In the end, that's all that really matters.

I understand, what I use make me super full now just doesn't do the same thing.  It's scary.  I almost wish I could go back to getting full on just a few bites. I have gone back to really sticking to portion sizes and using my food scale, just to make sure I'm not overeating.   It's hard though and like Mariana said, I have good days and bad days but I try to strike a balance where I won't gain weight but where I don't feel like I'm not depriving myself.

Well don't fell alone on this journey! I just went back to my Doc on Thursday and he really let me know what I had to do to get the results that I desired. My advice is to work towards your goals each day; remember this is a life syle change not a quick fix.

I have a few pounds as well to get off... I am definately not anywhere near where I need to be for protein like when I first got done my surgery... What are yall eating... like whats a normal day... i'm horrbile but i'll admit it... I am not losing but not eating enough as well!!!
Breakfast- Coffee/ sugar free energy drink
lunch- slice of pizza/ or a sandwich or salad
dinner - smaller portion of whatever my family is having ( not that bad)
I dont eat dessert... sugar dosent really agree with me

I do snack sometimes and today i ate a soft pretzel :(

I am thinking of starting tomorrow to have a protein drink for breakfast... I havent done protein drinks in a while and HATE all of the thick milky options... might try the special K protein water!  Atleast i'd be better off than what i'm doing now... will the extra protein help jumpstart weight loss again?

 Hi Sherri!

One thing just from your meals that you posted that could help you is to eat a good breakfast.  I find that when I skip it or don't have enough, I tend to have the urge to snack more.  How's your liquids situation...are you getting enough?  That's where I would start, definitely.  You also don't really  have to drink protein drinks, you could do some eggs or high protein cereal/cereal bar.  I will sometimes make breakfast "sandwiches" out of egg whites, low fat cheese in a high fiber/low carb wrap.  It's really fast and easy!

Good luck!

 1. If I drink 24 ounces of anything a day thats a big deal and about 12 is coffee or a sugar free energy drink ... BAD BAD BAD I know :(
2. Hate eggs lol I think i'm going to have to learn to like them or try egg whites ( i did buy the liquid kind ) maybe if i can add some spinach/ tomatoes/ cheese and garlic it wont even taste like egg? or do you have any suggestions... I also hate ALL breakfast meat !! I do like cheese though and just went to grocery store... bought several water flavorers ( crystal light etc) To try and up my fluid intake, got tuna for lunch tomorrow and string cheese for snacks!!! Having chili for dinner tonight so thats a good protein too!! need to try to do the bars for breakfast or maybe a protein shake for breakfast.
