just a question... my surgeon never really told me what my goal weight will be...  just wondering if anyone could give me any pointers on a weight to aim for...  i am 330lbs right now, and i would like to get down to like 160, but i'm not sure if that's actually a feasible goal... just wondering for some advice from you all.

recovery is going well.... out of the hospital for almost a day now.

My surgeon never gave me a goal either. He said that he doesn't like to because to many times he will pick a goal for someone and if they don't reach it they feel like they have failed. So he said to look at the BMI chart. Find a normal weight and u decide what u want to weight. As long as you are happy with how you look the number on the scale shouldnt matter. hope that helps

I didn't get one either but I just decided for my height (5'4) that 135 was a good number. I'm happy with anywhere between 130-140 and try not to stress about it too much. I will, however, try to get on the lower side of that for my 10 year high school reunion that will be sometime this summer.

I was 275lbs when I was approved for gastric bypass surgery.  My surgeon gave me a goal weight of 140lbs within a year of my surgery.  I was suprised that I got a goal weight because I guess he does not usually give weight goals to people.  my starting weight was 287lbs/bmi 45...goal weight is 140lbs/bmi 21.9.
my surgeon also had me do a body composition scan (which can be seen on my blog) where he found out that I have a small body frame, not being "big boned" like i always thought.
i am just over 2.5 weeks post op of my gastric bypass and as of friday i was 238lbs (total loss of 49lbs from my highest)

With RNY you are a 'success' if you lose 80% of your excess weight...  you could start that as a goal and always change it later. My surgeon gave that as a goal but said I could definately lose more weight. My main goal was to not be 'plus sized' and shop at regular stores... when I got down in weight I then set my overall goal to have a 'normal' BMI and not be considered overweight.
Anyways, 160 is a feasible goal... its good to work towards goals! Sometimes we reach them, 'sometimes we dont but as long as you give 110% thats what matters. My friend is 5'7".. when she has surgery she was 380+ pounds... now she is 6 years out and wears a size 4. It took her pretty much 4 years to lose all the weight and then she had plastic surgery... she got down to around 150lbs, post-plastic surgery she is in the lower 140s. She lost the majority of her weight in the first two years post-op and then VERY slowly worked at losing more... shed lose a pound here and there.. maybe 5lbs over a 4 month period but kept at it. She rocks a bikini now... its amazing!
