Recovering
I just wanted to post on here that I was released from the hospital today and am now recovering at home. I have started my journey FOR SURE now! I will be leaning on you guys in the coming weeks, months, and maybe years. It still doesn't really feel like I've had surgery, and some of the protein stuff actually isn't that bad. The Ensure Wild Berry that they brought me this morning for breakfast was actually quite tasty.
But I just wanted to post that my surgery went well today, and I appreciate everything that you all have done for me so far and I know I'll be leaning on you guys for further support! Have a good day. It's time to rest now.

NOTE TO EVERYONE!!!!
Do NOT leave the hospital without a pain prescription... I was still on whatever they'd given me in the IV and said that Tylenol should be fine for me to take whenever I have some pain... WRONG. Thankfully though, my dad was able to go get something from the doc for me today.
Again, ALWAYS leave the hospital with a pain med prescription.

I am right there with you, I had my surgery Monday 3/8/10, and my recovery so far is going really smoothly. I am not sure what your surgeon tells you to do, but I can tell you walking has made a world of difference for me!! Every time I am in pain walking usually does the trick.
I left with pain meds, but they did nothing for me...I am almost 10 days out and have been feeling pretty good for about a week now. The only thing that is bugging me is the pain on the left side of my stomach.
I hope your recovery goes wonderful!! Relax, sip and think protein!!

Thankfully, the pain meds do seem to help me, but yes walking is helping as well. One thing I am glad of is that I find the protein drinks appetizing so far. I am thankful for that, so 3 weeks of drinking protein and water shouldn't be too terrible. How are you doing with that so far? 10 days out and only liquid? Still hanging in there? Good luck with recovering, I know we both will do splendidly!
I am not required to do only liquid, we are put on a pureed diet. So my food generally consists of Yogurt, cottage cheese, pureed soups with chicken (also pureed), and of course protein shakes. My Nut told me not to rely on protein shakes only so I only do 1 or 2 a day. I like the protein shakes, but mainly the Atkins ones. I have tried Pure Protein and they are OK, and so are the EAS Advantedge. But the Atkins for some reason are really good!
It is amazing to me how every surgeon requires different things! I guess it is what they know to work the best!
But I have been doing pretty good with food, I try to be creative and so far everything I have tried works well. I have not gotten sick at all (knock on wood lol).

Hey, I'm new here and I am so excited there is a place here for younger people. I am almost 30, but I work for a really awesome youthful company and don't really see myself as grown up or old. I've had a tough time with this process because of this...the hospital I went through has a really great comprehensive program whi*****ludes support groups, psychological & nutritional counseling on both an individual and group basis, and a lot of other great things, but I feel like I have nothing in common with the people there. I swear I am the only person there under 50, unmarried, and without children. I love my docs, but it's sometimes hard to ask questions at the groups because I totally come from a different generation than most of my peers there.
So yeah, I had my surgery on Monday, and I too am still experiencing pain on the left side. I am quickly running out of the pain meds they gave me to have at home, but I am able to get off the couch and out of bed by myself, so I feel like I've accomplished quite a lot since I came home Tuesday.
Has anyone else had to be on protien meal replacements before surgery? I had to do 2 weeks pre-op and now except for mon & tues when I was on clear sugar-free liquids, I'm on meal replacements for another 2 weeks. I guess the program I'm doing is different than most too, because whether you had a band surgery like I did, or you had bypass, you're not allowed actual food until the 2 week post-op nutrition class & at that class we eat our first soft protien meal together.
And another question that I am sorry to ask people I don't know, but my mom has been going to my appointments with me and I have not had an opportunity to ask my doctor...how long after surgery do you need to wait before you can have sex? I am off of birth control because of the surgery, and I am in enough discomfort that it doesn't interest me that much, but pain or not, i am not sure how long my boyfriend or I will be able to hold out. lol
