I was wondering what you ladies use for birth control.  I stopped taking my pill becasue i figured that it would not absorb properly with the DS so I swiched to Nuva Ring and that gave me a yeast infection. So what do you ladies recommend for birth control?
Thanks
Nikki

I got the mirena IUD and loved it until the second week when I got a yeast and bacterial infection.  I have had this bacterial infection since i got it and it has yet to go away (since Dec. 09).  I want this removed but my obgyn keeps telling me its not causing it.  however, i have found several websites and forums of people going through the same thing.  I  have an appt ith a specialist tomorrow....  Keep in mind not everyone has the same experience and most people with the IUD love it, I would too if it did not cause me to have a never ending bact infection.  GOOD LUCK!!  - tori

I use the minerna iud, and ive had a great experience with it, i got it inserted 3mos prior to my surgery. although the insertion wasnt that fun, ive had nothing but sucess with it. light to no periods, and im glad to have a semi permenant form of bc that i dont have to worry about.

If you want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never, give up!

I got the Mirena IUD too. I have not had children. My OBGYN prefered it cause of the concern of not being able to obsorb pills, or use the patch till the weight came off. I also suffered from constant heavt bleeding from PCOS, and she knew this would help. I had it inserted while under anesthesia cause I had a DNC done the same day. I have had no problems . April will be a year since I have had it. One more reason I wanted the IUD is that when I am released to try to get pregnant there is no waiting.

You may need to research and decide for yourself. Good luck to you!!

I've been on the Depo shot for a couple years already and I'll be on it for at least another 2 years.  I really like it.  I seem to have less mood swings than when I was on the pill, which my DH is very happy for.  I also haven't had a period since my second shot.

I've had my Mirena in for the last 3 years.  It's really a great method if you forget pills and dont want the hassle of a weekly or monthly pill/patch/shot.

If you are comfortable and are willing to try the IUD, try to find another OB who would be willing to let you try.  Like a bunch said, you don't have to have children to get it inserted.

Good luck!!

I am on Depo and have been for a combined two+ years. I blamed weight gain on it a couple of years ago and switched back to the pill, but I came to my senses and realized the weight gain was me...

One shot every 3-4 months is not too much of an inconvenience. Some people don't react well to it. I have no periods whatsoever on it. I also don't have mood issues on it.
I have a very close friend that got scary depressed on Depo and had horrible swings and stopped taking it and returned to normal.

I am interested in the IUD, heard good things, heard they hurt like hell to get put in, especially if you have not had children. I know one of the nurses at my gyno had RNY and she did awesome and she is on the shot.

It is what you think you will do the best with. The nuva ring always scared me, what if it came out?
