Ladies...advice
Alright so, I've been thinking about ALL of the things that are going to change after this surgery and have been talking to be people about most of them. What about birth control? I've taken oral BC since I was like 18 and i promise you its lead to a monster amount of my weight gain. I really don't want to go down that road again, but am also just not even close to wanting to risk getting pregnant. SO what about the IUD..anybody have experience with it? What do you think? I am really thinking its whats best but I dont know for sure yet. I have an appointment with a new ob/gyn on April 8th so I will be talking with her then. Lastly, I'm afraid I'm going to be realy self-concious about my skin and stuff when I start loosing a lot. ADVICE PLEASE!!! I'd die without you guys : )
You can use an IUD after surgery, there is no issue with that! (That's what I use.) Every Dr is different, but my Dr stated that I was safe to have sex after 3 weeks, just not to push your self, and if your uncomfortable, STOP, and wait another week, and try again!
DON'T forget that you are extra fertile for the 1st year outta surgery, and my daughter is a birth control baby, lol So my Dr suggested a 2ed method too! JUST to be safe!!!
If you have any questions please ask. I am only 6 weeks out, but be glad to tell you my experience!!!
XOXO,
Jess

Actually I was on the shot before surgery! It did odd things to my body, and my GYN decited that the IUD was the best fit for me! It helps sooooo much with the periods I was having with the shot! But I ALWAYS use 2 methods since my beautiful accident in 2007! lol :-) I wouldn't trade my daughter for anything in the world, but she was DEF NOT planned! :-)
No issues with the IUD for me! Its been pretty great! I used it a year ago, and got off for the past 6 months to try the shot, cause I thought it would be easier, but came back to the IUD because it just worked right for me! But then on the other hand, my sis hated it. she prefers the shot. But def talk to your GYN, and they can suggest something right for you!
I agree with the other poster, that you might have an issue keeping the pill down the 1st couple of weeks, I couln't swallow any pills at ALL right after surgery!

Our surgeon's stance is pretty much start when its comfortable and stop if it isn't. I forgot you have Dr. Walton not Dr. B because my doc gave a huge speech about 2 forms of BC at ALL TIMES! I switched to the shot when I had surgery because I was having trouble keeping down vitamins and all my food at first and was loosing the BC pill in the process so I had to switch to something that doesn't have to be swallowed. But seriously use 2 forms at all times! There are people that have gotten pregnant as early 5 weeks out from surgery because your fertility just shoots through the roof! I'm not sure if you'll be able to convince your OB to give you an IUD because they usually don't if you haven't already had kids so you may need Dr. Walton to help convince your OB. But I will say that I don't think the "weight gain" that comes with the shot has bothered me at all so I don't think it would really effect your weight loss after surgery.
As for self-consciousness, that has been something that has effected me, I'm more self conscious about stuff now then I was 120lbs ago, it just takes some time to adjust to the changes.

I'm still pre-surg but I have been using Nuva-ring for several years and I love it. I'm not good at remembering to take my pill and with the ring you change once a month and are on the same cycle as a pill, three weeks on, one week off. Its a good option if you are concerned about not being able to take a daily pill once you have surgery.
Heyy Girl!
I believe I waited about 3-4 weeks after surgery to have sex, I probally would have done it sooner, but the guy I was with at the time and I were on a "break". As long as you feel okay, youll be okay. Just listen to your body. As far as birthcontrol goes, I had Mirnea IUD inserted about 3mos before surgery, the insertation wasnt that fun, but other then that im very happy with it. It makes my period when I have extremely light, and some months I dont even get a period, which it normal too. I like it because its very effective, and somewhat permanent since its advised we shouldnt get prego right away after surgery. As far as the extra skin goes, It is what it is. I would rather have some extra skin, then be obese and un healthy. After I lost 120lbs or so, my extra skin isnt that terrible, but trust me its there. I just feel if the person im with judges me by that then hes not worth my time anyway. I recently got into a relationship with someone, and I was honest with him from the beginning about my surgery, and he told me that it made him like me even more after hearing my story. So i was comfortable being intimate with him, he makes me feel beautiful regardless of body. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!

If you want to get somewhere you have to know where you want to go and how to get there. Then never, never, never, give up!

I think my husband and I waited till my incisions were completely healed. He felt weird doing anything before than, so about 4 weeks. My OBGYN put me on Mirena IUD. I had horrible period issues and she was afraid with the rapid weight loss it may be the best BC. I have no children yet, but she felt it was the best option. I had it put in in April, and surgery in August. I have had no problems with the Mirena and my periods are now tolerable.
I was 417 when I started and now at 257 in a little over 6 months. The skin will always be an issue one good thing is that we are younger and it will bounce back alot better than if we would of waited till our 40's. My arms are the thing that bother me the most, expescially with spring coming. I do think sometimesthat we see it worse than what it actually looks like. Which is so opposite than when we didn't realize how big we were before surgery. I am looking back at old pictures and it looks like a totally different person.
Good luck to you!!

My DH is definitely chomping at the bit as well, but he respects that I have incisions and we don't want to damage them.... cause then we'll have to wait longer. I'm only 2 weeks out, but I think we'll be trying this weekend as most of my incisions are pretty well healed up.
I've been on Depo for the last couple years and honestly.. I love it. I haven't had a period since the 2nd shot, my moods don't swing as hard, and it hasn't affected my weight gain/loss like pills did.
As for the skin thing, I think that really depends on your partner. You're losing a lot of weight and the skin will be there. If your partner respects you, then there shouldn't be an issue. Honestly, I'd rather be having sex with a thinner me with skin rather than what I look like right now.
