Sorry guys, poop question.

I'm 6 days out from surgery now and I'm wondering when I'm finally going to POOP! I still have some surgery-related gas pain in my lower abdomen and I'm wondering if constipation is adding to the discomfort.
Is 6 days normal?

Corey,
I had much trouble even passing gas after surgery and my surgeon wanted to make sure that I passed gas and pooped before I left the hospital. I had to have a suppository. I felt 1000 times better after. Of course, it wasn't until yesterday that any of my stools were remotely solid. You might want to just give your doc a call and ask what he/she thinks.

I just had to use soem milk of magnesia.. not pleasant even though it was cherry flavored, but when I finally went it was a huge relief!!  I also notice when I am not getting enough fluids in it seems to be worse so keep trying to push the fluids..

To be completely honst, it was almost 2 weeks after my surgery before I FINALLY went!  I have been oh so constipaded since surgery!  The only way I can actually poop to to take milk of magnesia, and I can go with in 12 hours of taking it!  So I have been taking it twice a week for a while now!  My dr is not to concerned about it, because I had issues with it before surgery.  He told me it should straighten out by 3 months post op!  Well thats my 2 cents!  lol

Hope you feel better soon,
Jess

So since everyone is sharing here it goes.

I have been struggling with constipation since surgery. My surgeon told me to try Milk of Magnesia and that did not help. Then they said do a daily stool softner. Last week I was sick with a stomach virus and Thursday was the last time I went. Today I had to go to the ER cause I had blocked bowel. After a failed suppository and some magnesium it passed. I have been home and in pain today.

A month ago my surgeon told me to make sure I get 100 ounces of liquids, and exercise. Which I do, but  it is mostly because of all the protien we are taking daily. I go to the surgeon Thursday for my 6 month follow up, hopefully he can change my diet a bit where life can be a little easier.

Good luck to all of you!!! (Even with the poo problems, I wouldn't of change my mind about having surgery.)

Keep in mind, if you are following a diet plan given you by your surgeon or nut you are eating way better then maybe in your entire life and way less too. Your body is using the nutrition you are putting into it and you just wont be going like you use too. Not as often, firm or hard stools and close after surgery..the sharts. My surgeon tells me from 3 times a day to 3 times a week is normal. Thats a pretty wide scale. You should check with your surgeon and follow his or her advice. Just 6 days out your not going to be going much and it aint gonna be easy. I would suggest perri collace or like someone else said Milk of Mag..i like the cherry myself,..but check with your surgeon first!

Good Luck  *it happens

good things come to those who wait..aniticipation..i could go on and on :)

PS, i almost forgot..never, and i mean NEVER trust a fart

I just talked to the surgeon's nurse and Milk of Mag it is! She did warn me not to go for a jaunt around the block after I take it though. Stay close to a bathroom. LOL.

I can't believe I actually am posting about poop on the internet. Wow, whodda thought?

(thanks for the laugh, Joe!)
