I am nervous about my endoscopy on Thursday. I know I have to fast for 6 hours but I am not sure how I am going to wake up. I didnt realize that you have to be put under for that. My mom is taking me to the appointmnet. I just hope all goes well. Any advice from someone that has had this done?

I haven't had one but depending on what they are doing, you could be in a twilight sleep and not fully put under.  If you are put under, it will be similar to any surgery...you'll be out and then awake before you realize anything ever happened.

Good luck!

Hey Kristi you are going to do fine with the endoscopy. Its painless and I woke up not feeling anything. They will give you a small sedative but nothing like what you will have for surgery and you will only be out for about 40 mins tops. To be honest I was nervous when I got there myself but by the time they took me back to the room they told me my surgeon was running about 15 mins behind so just relax..I actually feel asleep on the table without any drugs. My surgeon got a good laugh out of that. He said he could tell I was a mother of 3 and a full time nursing student if I could sleep at a time like that. LOL
Just don't stress over it and your going to be fine the fasting is probably the hardest part at this point. Does your surgeon do the kidney filter also? This was something I was unaware of until I was scheduled to have done 5 days before the big day. Best of luck!!! (((BIG HUGS)))

For me the endoscopy was super easy!!!  all I remember, was hearing the nurse tell me night, night, and that was about it!!!  I do remember hearing the dr talking while I was "under"  but thats because they don't put you complete under, just enough to relax you. and put you to sleep!  :-)  GOOD STUFF!!!  :-)

You will do great!!!  But my prayers are with you!  :-)

It went fine. I was really nervous at first but when they wheeled me into the room they gave me oxygen, and they had me bite down on a bite block and thats all that i remember. I woke up in the recovery room and they gave me something to drink and it was all very quick an hour in total from going in to the room to get IV to walking out the door to go home. The only problem i had after was a sore throat. But over i am very happy i went to sleep i dont know if i could of been awake for mine how was that??
