a bunch of extra skin?
Hey everybody...
Im pretty sure this has been asked before but couldnt find it. How bad is your excess skin? I know it varies from person to person but just wanted to know. And is there a way of preventing it. Ive had a dream of wearing a bikini to the beach for as long as i can remember but now skin has got me worried. Of course i would rather have extra skin than be fat...lol. but just wondering. Thanks. :)

so like i started off at 350 pounds and im 5'10. ive lost 166 and im like 185ish now.
my excess skin isnt really that horrible. before surgery i was dreading the end result of the SKIN.
but the more people i talk to, the more i realize that working out after surgery really does make the differance in your excess skin. i really trully believe thats why i dont have a huge amount.
other factors include like age and stuff, the older you are the more possibility of it not going back into place per say.
theres no way of prevention, but making sure you get your butt to the gym everyday will get you closer to that bikini bod your dreaming of :)

I posted pictures of my vacation in my bikini...it's an older post from around the beginning of February if you wanted to take a look. I have extra skin but I don't really care...yes, I probably would get plastics if I had the option but it's not an option right now, so I just work out and do a lot of weights and things. I'm pretty pleased with the way my skin looks for the most part.
You'll get there too! Half of it is just being comfortable with yourself in whatever skin you have.... Good luck!

Mine is pretty bad, especially on my thighs, arms and stomach. I will definitely need plastics after I reach my goal. But I started at a really high BMI. A lot of things factor in to it. Genetics, age, starting BMI, rate of loss.
And you're right, I would much rather have extra skin than extra fat. It may not be pretty, but at least I'm healthier!

VSG on 4/7/2009. Weight at surgery- 341 lbs. Weight lost- 150 lbs. Weight regain- 70 lbs. Current weight 260 lbs. Seeking a revision to the DS.
There isnt a day that goes by that I dont think about plastic surgery. Overall I need my arms, legs and stomach done but my stomach is my worst area. A bikini for me about 40,000$ away.
To help with your skin proper nutrition, staying hydrated (water as well as lotion on the skin) will help. You cannot exercise away excess skin but you can help its appearance by building muscle underneath.. toning up will definately help. Also time, it takes a while for your skin to catch up with the body. After I hit my goal weight it took about a year for things to 'settle down'.

I have lots of extra skin but it depends on what you can tolerate.
When I was a 9 i looked great in a bikini, because I still had a little bit of fat under my extra skin. now Im a 5/6 and I just look like a skeleton with skin. Im still probably going to wear one anyways. I dont care about a little extra skin, It only looks bad up close, and from far away people probably cant tell. Or at least Im telling myself that!!
